FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Medgar Evers College is a senior college of the City University of New York located in central Brooklyn.  In recent years, the college has undergone tremendous growth in student enrollment and expansion in physical facilities.  The Nursing Department is located in the new School of Science, Health and Technology building.  It has four state-of-the-art well equipped nursing labs, a computer lab, and a mock hospital room.  The Department currently offers three programs:  a B.S. completion program, a RN program, and a Practical Nursing certificate program.  The department has support staff, numerous adjunct faculty, and fifteen full-time faculty members.

The College is seeking outstanding candidates as well as nominations for a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor to take the position of Chair of the Nursing Department, one of four departments in the School of Science, Health and Technology.  The Chair shall serve as the academic leader and administrative officer of the 3 nursing programs.  Reporting to the Dean of Science, Health and Technology, the Chair will supervise all accreditation related activities and promote high quality teaching and academic programs as well as research and service related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified candidate must have an earned doctorate in Nursing; clinical expertise in a specialty area of nursing practice with a current NYS license; a demonstrated record of distinction in college teaching and scholarship, a successful record of extramural funding, and experience in higher education leadership and nursing program accreditation process. 

The search committee will be particularly interested in candidates with vision, creativity, and a strong sense of advocacy on behalf of the Department; a track record of working with a diverse group of faculty, students, and administrators; superior communication and organization skills; and a personal and professional commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action goals.
