The Dean, reporting to senior executive management, oversees a school, division, academic program and/or function to enhance its profile, visibility, and effectiveness.  He/she develops long- and short-range plans, and exercises management responsibility for academic program planning, faculty matters, and administration, including staffing, budgets, and facilities.  He/she fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside the College as a strong advocate.






The College of Staten Island is a four-year, senior college of The City University of New York that offers exceptional opportunities to all its students. The College enrolls approximately 14,000 students and employs over 2,000 faculty and staff. Programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional studies are offered that lead to bachelor's and associate's degrees. The master's degree is awarded in 16 professional and liberal arts and sciences fields of study. Doctoral degrees are offered at the College or jointly with The Graduate Center of The City University of New York in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Physics. The College's 204-acre campus is the largest site for a college in New York City. Set in a park-like landscape, the campus is centrally located on Staten Island. Mature trees and woodlands, flowering trees and ornamental plantings, fields, and outdoor athletic facilities, the great lawn, sculptures, and seating areas create a rural oasis in an urban setting. The campus includes state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, studios, and offices in two academic quadrangles, and is home to the CUNY Interdisciplinary High-Performance Computing Center. Other noteworthy facilities include the Astrophysical Observatory, the Biological Sciences and Chemical Sciences Building, the Center for the Arts, Sports and Recreation Center, and the Library. The College opened its first student residence halls in fall 2013. 

The Dean provides the academic and administrative leadership for the undergraduate and graduate programs within the School of Business:  Accounting, Economics, Finance, International Business, Management, and Marketing. The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the Provost's Council through which the Dean participates in the formulation, evaluation, and administration of College policy.

Responsibilities of the Dean include the following:
- Oversees the functions of the School of Business, working closely with the department chairs, faculty, and other college administrators to develop short-term, mid-range, and long-term for the School.
- Works with the Business faculty to develop a 3-5 year plan to achieve AACSB accreditation.
- Promotes academic excellence through scholarly development, curricular development, and student success initiatives as well as through program reviews, assessments, and accreditation.
- Provides support and guidance to the program coordinators of the School of Business.
- Encourages and supports high quality teaching, faculty research, creative and professional activities, and the solicitation of external funding for research; aggressively leads an expanded advancement effort and actively pursues public/private partnerships.
- Manages the financial resources of the School through effective budget planning and the assessment and management of resource allocations to support programs of high quality central to the mission of the school.
- Works with other departments, schools, and divisions in the further development and evolution of the undergraduate and graduate programs in the field of business.
- Interacts and coordinates activities with the Vice President of Information Technology and Economic Development and the Small Business Development Center.
- Works with the Provost and College-wide tasks forces related to academic affairs.


This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.



Qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate in one of the disciplines within the School; a record of academic achievement in the discipline meriting appointment as a tenured full Professor; University teaching experience complemented by a superior research and scholarly record. The candidate should have a record of proven leadership at the level of Department Chair or above related to the various goals of the School, with five years of administrative experience highly desirable. Demonstrated engagement with and success in obtaining federal, state, and/or private grants; experience in fiscal affairs, faculty and staff development, and promoting university and community relations; and evidence of a strong commitment to the goals of urban, public higher education serving diverse populations will all be considered in the evaluation of applicants.
