Job Description Summary:
The Senior Advisor is responsible for providing insight, leadership, and guidance for ongoing and new school-wide initiatives to improve processes and services, enhance the SMHS culture, and increase operational efficiencies. The Senior Advisor will analyze operations, processes, and services to evaluate performance and determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, and policy change, as appropriate.
The Senior Advisor will also be responsible for assisting senior management with strategic problem solving and process improvement by determining the appropriate approaches and methodologies to be taken and used. The Senior Advisor will communicate, on an ongoing basis, with any key constituents, staff, faculty, and students, as needed. This position will also serve as an extension of the Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences for complex matters and decision making with faculty, key administrators, donors, and trustees for SMHS.

Bachelor's degree or higher in Medicine, Public Health, Business Administration, Health Administration, or other relevant specialization required.
8-10 years of experience in facilitation and project management is required.
Experience with planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and implementing programs is required.
8 years of management experience, preferably in a highly complex, matrixed organization such as an academic medical center, medical school teaching hospital or research university.
Experience with planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and implementing programs in an academic setting (preferably in medicine).
A working knowledge of health care and academic medicine.
8 years of relative leadership experience in higher education and/or healthcare setting.
Demonstrated supervisory and management skills in effectively facilitating interactions among senior leadership colleagues, faculty and staff that lead to development of institutional action plans.
Experience interacting and motivating senior management positions towards progress in academic goals and priorities.
Demonstrated management skills, ability to think strategically while balancing complex agendas, and managing multiple and diverse assignments.

Coordinates and supports school-wide initiatives to establish and redress priorities within SMHS. Improves processes and services, enhancing the SMHS culture and increasing operational efficiencies according to trends in higher education and best practices. Analyzes business operations, processes, and services to evaluate performance and determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change. Directs, plans, and implements objectives and activities to ensure continuing operations and maximize productivity.
Acts as the deputy to the SMHS to resolve problems and make decisions on matters not requiring Dean involvement.
Provides counsel and coaching to assist leadership, departments and teams with annual and long-term planning, group problem solving, and process and service improvement. Provides support in designing and facilitating school and department level planning sessions at the request of deans, department chairs, and other senior leaders, as appropriate.
Assists senior management with solutions to problems and issues by determining the approaches to be taken and the methodologies to be used. Facilitates fast and effective decision making. Takes appropriate actions to resolve problems.
