Position Information:
Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Academic Advisor, International Education Programs, the Academic Advisor counsels International students enrolled in UCR Extension ESL, Academic and certificate & diploma programs for their educational and career goals. The Academic advisor also offers academic advising and guidance to International students in Extension applying to UCR other US institutions at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The Academic Advisor assists students to select and enroll in campus and Extension classes and plays a lead advising role for the Graduate Pathway Programs, the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP), and the Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission program (SACM). The Academic Advisor plays a supporting role, as directed by the Senior Academic Advisor, for the Academic Year Certificate Programs (AYCP) and the Elite Visiting Student Program (EVP).

Minimum Requirements:
Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Competencies
1.Education and/experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
2.Demonstrated related student affairs experience.
3.Strong oral and written communication skills
4.Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population
5.Experience working with international students.
6.Broad knowledge of the world including political geographic and economic issues
7.Ability to read and understand foreign transcripts.
8.Excellent written and verbal skills.
9.Ability to produce detailed and accurate reports.
10.Ability to work with minimal supervision.
11.Familiarity with the California and U.S. higher education systems.
12.Familiarity with computers, word processing, database and spreadsheet programs.
13.Excellent organizational skills.
14.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and ability to communicate with people from various cultures with sensitivity, patience, and diplomacy.
15.Ability to gather, organize and track data accurately.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Competencies
1.Understanding of the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the principal audiences of UCR International Education Programs.
2.Ability to communicate effectively in a second language (other than English) and/or experience living/working abroad.
3.Experience working in a self-supporting academic organization.
4.Knowledge of UCI academic departments, admission requirements, policies and practices.
