About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: The Editorial Associate, Acquisitions provides support in work relating to the acquisition of original titles in three areas (science studies, music, and life sciences), as well as work relating to the administration of the Editorial Acquisitions Department. Assists three acquisitions editors with regard to new manuscripts and proposals, series titles, imported books, revisions, and translations from review to publication and beyond. Works closely with authors and reviewers worldwide, and collaborates with colleagues in other departments of the books division. May also be called on to assist two editorial directors in department-wide administrative tasks. May supervise part-time student assistant.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

Unit Experience: At least two years of full-time book publishing experience required.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Excellent analytic skills required. Strong proofreading, organizational, word processing, and spreadsheet skills required. Attention to detail; tact required. Ability to handle confidential matters required. Excellent command of written English required. Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style required. Ability to travel out of town several times per year required. Ability to comprehend academic writing required. Ability to focus on complex material for lengthy periods each day required. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously required. Familiarity with scholarly books preferred. Reading proficiency in a foreign language (especially Italian, French, or German) preferred.
