Position Summary:
The Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research at Northeastern University seeks an Associate Director for Online Course Design to support faculty across disciplines in the design and development of online and hybrid courses. Projects will be carried out in a team-based environment, including learning scientists, instructional technologists, assessment experts, and media/academic technology staff. The Associate Director will be expected to guide faculty through a course design process that incorporates principles of constructive alignment and applies evidence-based principles from the learning sciences to design online and hybrid courses that enable engaged and meaningful learning. The person in this position will also support ongoing programming of the Center.
Primary Responsibilities
• Consult with faculty on the design and development of online and hybrid courses grounded in evidence-based learning principles.
• Contribute to the development of a course design process that will scaffold faculty colleagues’ ability to design and develop future courses with minimal support.
• Work collaboratively with learning scientists, academic technologists, media specialists, assessment specialists, and others to enable faculty to develop and implement courses.
• Work collaboratively with faculty to develop realistic project plans and schedules.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects.
• Consult with faculty as they teach online and hybrid courses to help them develop effective strategies for ongoing communication, feedback and facilitation.
• Participate in and contribute to the Center’s ongoing programs related to online learning, including workshops, inquiry groups, and research discussions.
• Engage in professional development to stay abreast of learning theories, pedagogy, and technological developments. Research current trends and developments in instructional design and innovative pedagogies.

Qualifications:
• Doctoral or terminal degree preferred.
• Experience teaching online in higher education.
• Minimum of three years of experience designing online courses in higher education.
• Experience working with faculty in diverse disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to apply principles of constructive alignment and learning sciences research to the design of online courses.
• Ability to guide faculty through design decisions informed by learning science research.
• Familiarity with common tools for producing online content, i.e. screencasts, pencasts, interactive modules.
• Proficiency with Blackboard Learning Management System and common Web 2.0 tools.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
• Ability to adapt to changes in priorities and scheduling.
• Ability to initiate tasks with little or no direction.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.
