Reports to: Amy Jobin Status: Part-time Staff General Description: Under the general direction of the Director of the Office of Spirituality, an Ordained Priest Chaplain will fulfill pastoral and sacramental duties on the Notre Dame de Namur University campus. The Chaplain, in collaboration with the Director of the Office of Spirituality, will serve the students of Notre Dame de Namur University with a particular focus on the following areas: working to create a rich liturgical life for the NDNU student community; and providing pastoral care and programming for students. The Ordained Priest Chaplain will serve in accord with the regulations of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, within the precepts set forth in the USCCB Pastoral Letter “Empowered by the Spirit: Campus Ministry Faces the Future,” and in the spirit of the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and Notre Dame de Namur University’s Hallmarks and core values. 1. Liturgy • Preside at Sunday night student liturgies 3 – times per month, at week day Mass 2-3 times per month, and at special liturgies such as Ash Wednesday and Graduation Mass (the latter are negotiable depending on the Priest’s schedule and his responsibilities outside of NDNU). • He will work collaboratively with the Director of the Office of Spirituality and the Student Ministry Interns to create liturgy that is age-appropriate to a college student population and that utilizes the gifts of the students. 2. Pastoral Care • Be available for appointments for pastoral counseling, to be held in the Chapel or the Mission and Spirituality Offices behind the Chapel. • Initiate interaction with students to learn their needs and to be involved in their personal and spiritual development. • Be available to student groups such as Athletic Teams or Student organizations when requests are made for a Priest Chaplain and/or spiritual leadership. 3. Administration • Work cooperatively with the Office of Spirituality and student sacristans in preparation for liturgies. • Complete all paperwork for the Archdiocese of San Francisco and his diocese/order to ensure permission and approval for performing sacramental duties within the San Francisco Archdiocese. Breakdown of Hours: Preparation of Homily and Presiding at Sunday Night Student Mass: 3 hours Presiding at Weekday Campus Mass: .5 hours (30 min) Pastoral Care/Time with Students: 2.5 hours per week Approximate hours per week: 6 hours Stipend: $25 per hour plus 3 meals per week (or one meal per day when on campus) *Time spent performing pastoral care to students or presiding at the weekday Mass can happen when the Ordained Priest Chaplain is already on campus to fulfill teaching responsibilities.
