Music Professor/Director of Choral Activities

Full-time, one year temporary position

Salary Range: $54,302-$101,320/year

Under the supervision and direction of the Division Dean of Arts and Communication the primary responsibility of the person assigned to this position is to organize and manage the college’s vocal music program, conduct the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, and instruct other music classes as assigned such as Music 1: Music Fundamentals (General Education) and Music 4: (Music Fundamentals (General Education).

Examples of Duties:
1. Teach courses in choral performance, voice, and other areas within the Department of Music.
1. Develop the vocal music program including the areas of curriculum, scheduling, recruitment, budgeting, music and equipment purchasing, public relations, and concert production.
1. Participate collegially with other Music faculty and the Division Dean in the operation of the Department of Music as a whole.
1. Assist the Dean in the preparation of reports, budgets, audit information and other required data.
1. Participate collegially with other Music faculty and the Division Dean in the preparation, evaluation and revision of courses and course materials as assigned.
1. Participate collegially with other Music faculty and the Division Dean in the design, development, and evaluation of new courses, materials and programs
1. Participate collegially with other Music faculty and the Division Dean in the program review process.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Music OR Bachelor’s in Music and Master’s in Fine Arts.
• Master’s in music OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s in humanities OR the equivalent 
• Demonstrated success in developing, organizing, and conducting vocal ensembles who can perform successfully for peers and outside audiences
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated successful collegiate teaching experience
• Demonstrated performance ability to sing or provide evidence of professional performance experience. 
• Demonstrated interest in the development of a Vocal Jazz Ensemble in collaboration with the Instrumental Jazz program faculty
• Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperatively with staff, students, college, and community groups.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities, age, nationalities and cultures.
• Knowledge of the diverse needs and abilities of non-traditional students and familiarity with materials and methods designed to meet their needs.
• Demonstrated willingness to devote the extra time required to make the choral music program successful
