The Director of the Office of Access and Inclusion (OAI) will oversee the school-wide diversity programming and training efforts, and the management of broad-based inclusion initiatives, provide leadership, counsel, information and advocacy, and develop, implement (in future years, also evaluate and refine) the Schools? of Engineering and ICS diversity strategic plan. Conceive, develop and administer programs and initiatives to advance retention, recruitment and outreach efforts focused of students underrepresented in the fields of engineering and computer science. These groups include Women, Latino, African-American, Native American and Pacific Islander. Duties include advancing the offices mission and vision, monitoring and developing strategies to ensure academic excellence, developing outreach activities, promoting student retention, preparing and presenting annual reports to the Deans, Donors and Foundation Boards, provide recommendation for policy implementation within the Schools programs and practices to foster inclusion for students, alumni, visitors and others, writing reports and proposals, financial planning and budgeting, maintaining strong alumni relationships, and evaluating the success of program activities. The Director reports to the Deans of The Henry Samueli School of Engineering (HSSoE) and the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS). The Director also works closely with key HSSoE and ICS faculty, Development and External Relations, Student Affairs and Career Center staff.


Salary: Annual $65,000.00 - $97,500.00

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F will vary

Percent of Time: 100%
Recruitment: Leads in the development and strengthening of the recruitment efforts for underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students. Works collaboratively with HSSoE/ICS academic departments and other university offices to implement robust programs and activities to recruit and retain underrepresented minorities and women into the engineering and computer science majors.  Develops a diverse candidate pool and manages an up to date recruitment database.  Analyzes recruitment data and monitors recruitment processes and plans for continuous improvements and enhancements.    
Outreach: Collaborates with other university offices and with external partners to develop programs for outreach and pre-college activities aimed at diversity within HSSoE/ICS. Additionally, this position is charged with the oversight and management of two distinct and established programs; Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program and the Center for Opportunities and Diversity in Engineering (CODE) program.
As Director for MESA, the position will have administrative oversight over 30 schools spread across 5 school districts including Newport Mesa, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Compton and Lynwood. In this role for the incumbent will concentrate efforts to continue partnerships with K-14 educational organizations and institutions to offer STEM-related enrichment programs for teachers who will incorporate the program into their daily curriculum to promote the STEM and outreach efforts and promote engineering awareness and academic preparation. The Director is responsible for producing 10 data deliverables and comprehensive reports annually to MESA Statewide to report on student outcomes and progress towards annual goals.
As the Director of the CODE Program, the primary focus is on student retention efforts.  The Director will participate in conferences and meetings and makes presentations to specific groups and student populations to increase the program visibility and build lasting relationships with the community, industry and other constituents.  Partners with student leaders of relevant groups (NSBE, SWE, WICS, AISES, SHPE, MAES) in the recruitment process.  Represents HSSoE/ICS at career fairs, college fairs and open house events. Collaborates with alumni as well as community and corporate volunteers and sponsors, oversee and manage corporate sponsored Scholarships and represents HSSoE/ICS at meetings and on committees at local, regional and national conferences aimed toward underrepresented students in engineering and computer sciences.
Communications: In collaboration with the HSSoE/ICS Deans, the Diversity Board and key staff and faculty to identify opportunities for publicity and marketing outreach efforts, recruitment and retention initiatives, and for developing and evaluating program objectives. Provides content for the OAI webpage with regular updates to maintain relevancy. Assists with publication of journal articles and conference proceedings on effective recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
Retention:  Promotes a sense of community and inclusion for students in the STEM fields.  Adjusts programmatic goals to align with industry trends for more successful student integration.  Works with industry partners to identify and develop placement and internships opportunities for the underrepresented student populations served.  
Financial Management/Fundraising: Responsible for the financial oversight and management of the Office of Access and Inclusion annual budget of approximately $950,000.00. This includes operational funding for materials, supplies, travel and personnel/salary.  Additional financial reporting and oversight of the statewide allocations for the MESA/CODE programs.  Charged with fundraising for future expansion of the OAI programs and staffing.
BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science or Masters Degree in any area.
At least 7 years of experience in Student Affairs or related setting in an academic institution of higher learning with an emphasis on working with diverse populations.
Experience or demonstrated skills in program development, delivery and evaluation, as well as the measurement of program outcomes and impact.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact and build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds, administrators, program staff and faculty across disciplines, donors and industry constituents.
Excellent computer skills.
Ability to coordinate campus community presence through personal contacts and the use of community organizations.
Ability to manage HSSoE/ICS Diversity Board and its committees.
Experience in fundraising and extensive experience in writing reports, proposals, and presentations.
Comprehensive knowledge of both public schools (K-12) and the California systems of higher education (CCC, CSU, UC, and AICCU ) including knowledge of academic standards, administrative and governance structures, faculty relations, school protocol, school communities.
Demonstrated experience in fund development and proposal writing.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Must be available for travel.
A graduate degree or coursework towards a PhD in any area.  Experience/expertise in current online/social networking media/technology is a plus.
This position requires some evening and weekend hours, as well as travel for recruitment and conferences. This position has an indefinite end date with long-term funding.
