GENERAL DUTIES

Administers an academic advising center or unit. 

- Collaborates with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program

- Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments

- Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral

- Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies

- Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs

- Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors

- Develops print and online communication materials

- May supervise office operations and budget

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting directly to the Director of Academic Advising, the Academic Advising Specialist performs generalist duties as required by the Center as a member of its team of professional academic advisors.  In addition to performing general advising duties, the Specialist serves as the primary unit liaison to appropriate committees and work groups related to advising communications and technologies, which include developing, coordinating, implementing, and assessing communications and technology-based advising services to promote student success through graduation.

- Oversees and administers all aspects of the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Implements existing communication plans and supports the Center's expansion of new communication efforts.
- Serves as the Center's liaison for CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, Hobson's Retain, Crystal Reports, and other advising communication systems. 
- Maintains the content of the Center's website, social media webpages, and electronic advising (eAdvising) services and filing systems. 
- Assists the director in the developing, instituting, and assessing of advising and retention communication plans.
- Serves as primary liaison with Enrollment Management and Services, the Office of Converging Technologies (OCT), and Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). 
- Provides and facilitates training for new and existing users on advising tools.
- Supervises part-time advising assistants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's Degree preferred with at least four years of relevant experience preferably in an urban higher education setting
- Excellent communication, writing, and analytic skills
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with multiple priorities and deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to meet students' needs
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to present ideas and information to small and large groups that includes students, parents, faculty and administrators
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint); student information management systems, such as PeopleSoft/Oracle, Hobson's products, and Crystal Reports
- Ability to work extended hours (flexible evenings and weekends when needed) during peak operation periods

COMPENSATION

$46,302- $55, 782; Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
