College Laboratory Technician




This position reports directly to the Chair of the School of Earth and Environmental Science (SEES) and is responsible for upkeep of our analytical instruments used for teaching and research, and assists with the maintenance of the SEES webpage.

Specific duties include:
- Maintenance, calibration, and minor repair of laboratory research instruments and equipment.
- Schedule research instruments and equipment use.
- Assure adequacy and availability of supplies and materials for research instruments.
- Consulting with faculty, update and maintain content on departmental web pages.
- Assist with maintenance of instructional content on individual faculty members' web pages.
- Support students, faculty, and visiting scientists with laboratory tasks related to research.
- Assist faculty and staff in setting up teaching laboratories.
- Assist faculty with field trip classes.
- Perform related duties as assigned.


High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience.  Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.


Preferred qualifications:
- BA or BS degree in a natural science (e.g., Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, environmental science, etc.)
- Knowledge of and experience with analytical instruments such as micro-balance, pH meter, photometers, mass-spectrometers, titraters, particle counters or other analytical instruments
- Ability to repair electronic equipment including competence in the use of electronic workbench equipment such as digital voltmeter, soldering station
- Experience in and evidence of ability in webpage design and maintenance
- Organizational abilities and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with diverse groups of undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty
- Effective skills in written and oral communications
- Valid New York State driver's license


Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
