Instructional Technologist, Online Learning Educational Technology Services Smith College Smith College is accepting applications for an Instructional Technologist, Online Learning. Reporting to the Director, this position consults with faculty to identify technology that will assist them in meeting their pedagogical goals, emphasizing online learning; informs faculty about best practices in developing online courses and utilizing online components in their face to face classes; collaborates with Educational Technology Services (ETS) staff to identify trends in online learning; collaborates with Sherrerd Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to align ETS outreach with CTL initiatives. This position is part of the instructional support team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Faculty Consultation: Consult with faculty to analyze instructional problems and identify appropriate online learning objectives. Meet with faculty to discuss best practices related to online teaching and learning. Provide resources to faculty about current research on effective use of online learning in face to face classrooms. Coordinate and communicate with other technology professionals on and off campus about issues related to the effective and efficient use of academic technology in online and face to face courses. Resources: Develops resources for faculty to assist with their online course implementation, including documents, tutorials, and videos. Develops the ETS web site as a rich resource for faculty to find information related to online learning. Instructional Design: Work within an instructional design model and with ETS colleagues to analyze, design, deploy, and assess online learning projects. Coordinate efforts with the Sherrerd Center for Teaching and Learning and the Library. Instruction/Presentation: Conduct hands-on workshops on applications for the Smith community. Present group software demonstrations for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Participate in cross-team projects and perform other duties as required. Maintain professional skills by attending conferences, workshops, and trade shows. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Master’s Degree required. Two years of experience in online course development required. Experience in designing, developing, and delivering instruction in a higher education environment. Experience developing and teaching online courses. Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy; outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent customer service orientation and ability to interact with diverse constituencies; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work on a team as well as independently. Strong knowledge of educational technologies, especially those used for online learning. Demonstrated writing skills. Knowledge of web development tools.
