Job Summary

As the chief marketing officer for The Paul Merage School of Business, this role has the highest level of Marketing and Communications authority at the School, serves as the leader of an in-house marketing services department, and is the primary liaison to the University-level Communications Department. This position is responsible for the continued development and execution of strategic marketing and communications programs in support of the School's Mission and Values, designed to increase its global reputation and solidify the brand identity of the Merage School, effectively revealing the Merage School to be a top 25 business education institution, by portraying its local and global strengths on a primarily national and secondarily international level in order to positively affect rankings, student, staff and faculty recruitment, graduates job placement and fundraising, among others.

 

Salary: Range $80,000 - $115,000

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY CENTERS
 
In collaboration and consultation with the Dean, senior staff and faculty, and significant advisory board members, the Executive Director will continuously develop, improve and deliver excellence in all areas of marketing and promoting the School s brand. The Executive Director will also advise and manage the marketing department team, and provide both strategic-level and  hands-on  production-level work, effectively serving as a consultant/marketing agency to all internal departments.
 
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
 
The Executive Director will provide expert advice, establish priorities and develop comprehensive plans for the Dean and senior staff and faculty on brand management and marketing planning (digital and traditional), budget development and oversight, and public relations and promotion strategies.
 
The Executive Director will provide consultative direction to each of the Merage School s areas (e.g. five masters programs, PhD and Undergraduate programs, seven Centers of Excellence, Career Center, Executive Education, Development and Alumni Relations, Corporate Relations, and others) on unit-level marketing requirements and coordination.
 
The successful candidate will develop direct professional relationships with prospective students, employers, alumni, significant donors, University and UCOP leadership, peer institutions and the business public at large.
 
SCOPE OF OPERATIONS
 
Success is gauged by the ability to further develop and manage the Merage School brand and key messaging, lead a diverse team of three FTEs plus outside freelance vendors, maximize an $800K marketing programs budget, develop strong relationships, and employ both traditional and digital/social media tools to enhance and expand the visibility and reputation of the Merage School and reinforce its brand among internal and external constituencies. This is a key role in representing the School at the highest levels of quality and professionalism, and the candidate is expected to bring a business development orientation, excellent team management skills, strong communications skills and knowledge of the regional and national business community.
 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
Required:
Proven success in a similar marketing/brand management leadership role, managing teams and influencing others in order to develop and achieve marketing and communications goals.
 
Extensive knowledge of or ability to come up to speed on The Paul Merage School of Business, its faculty, staff, and programs.
 
Ability to act responsibly on behalf of the dean or assistant dean in making decisions or providing perspective and direction in his or her absence or under his or her direction.
 
Ability to effectively position the Merage School among the top research university business schools in the world and to guide marketing efforts that deliver on that brand promise.
 
MBA or educational/experience equivalent and minimum of 15 years  experience in progressively responsible positions in marketing, business development, public relations, communications, and management, working with the business community and/or professional organizations.
