Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, University Extension, and consistent with the long range goals and objectives of University Extension, the position is responsible for the design, development, marketing, delivery and successful management of non-degree, continuing education business and management programs for both a local, online, and international constituency. Programs are designed to effectively address current and emerging needs of the business communities and are offered on the UCI campus in traditional classroom format, on site for corporate clients, and online as a part of Extension's growing distance education portfolio. Initiates service and revenue sharing opportunities and partnerships with UCI campus units.
The unit is self-supporting through the generation of fee-based educational programs and services, grant funded opportunities, and other strategies. Establish a vision for the unit and how the unit will evolve and grow profitably. Specifically, the director is responsible for program development/administration, achieving budget goals, identifying and developing new programs, achieving quality standards in online and on-ground courses, and managing the existing portfolio which includes programs in management, marketing and business content areas.
Responsibilities require that the appointee have a high degree of sophistication in the broad fields of business and management and continuing education program development, is entrepreneurial, and is able to identify/address the emerging academic needs of business utilizing the resources of UCI and the community.
Salary: Range $100,000-$120,000
Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
Designs/develops management, marketing and business continuing education curriculum for delivery to local national and international and online audiences. This includes the identification of topics where demand exists, identification of target audience, creation of advisory committees, and curriculum development. Collaborates with UNEX international unit to develop and deliver specific custom-design programming for international professionals.
Responsible for developing business plans and achieving financial goals and profitability. Current portfolio represents $4.3 million annual revenue.
Develops and long and short range planning for the department including, goals for continued growth and budget development.
Supervises Program Representative staff responsible for program implementation for public, on-line international and on-site programs. Recruits, hires, and supervises qualified professionals to teach University Extension courses. Guides instructors in curriculum development and program design including the use of online delivery systems.
Acts as a liaison with UCI faculty and other academic units whose research may be relevant to the interest and concerns of the business and management community.
Responsible for developing the unit's marketing plan and evaluates its effectiveness.
Demonstrates leadership in the organization by participating in and at times leading special initiatives and special projects for University Extension and the Dean.
Achieves quality standards as established by Extension in both online and on-ground courses.
Position is accountable to the Associate Dean of University Extension for the development, implementation, and continued growth of their portfolio.
Works collaboratively with other University Extension program directors.
Represents the Dean and Associate Dean of University Extension to the business community throughout the US and internationally.
Primary liaison with international community for custom design business programs and accelerated certificate programs for internationals interfaces with high level international corporate members and agents.
Establishes cooperative efforts with UCI faculty, community and professional leaders, prospective students and corporate clients.
Creates and leads advisory committees made up of leading professionals in the community and UCI faculty to advise on the development and marketing of certificate programs.
Pursues leadership opportunities in the community and on the UCI Campus in order to strengthen UCI's role in the growth and development of Orange County.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Advanced degree in business or related field with a minimum of 9 years experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. (PhD desired)
Demonstrated experience in developing continuing education programs for the adult learner as well as for an international clientele
Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully interact with faculty, high-level business, governmental and social leaders.
Significant successful experience working in business markets locally, nationally and internationally. Knowledge and understanding on how to develop new markets.
Experience managing a diverse staff including hiring, training, taking corrective action, and motivating.
Skilled negotiator and project manager, including developing financial plans and achieving budget goals. Ability to lead more than one project simultaneously.
Ability to understand and implement academic quality standards.
Skilled in analyzing marketing and financial data.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Advanced degree in business, social science, international business, education, or equivalent experience.
Experience working with faculty.
Ability to read, write, and speak in at least one other language besides English is desired but not a requirement.
