Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Full-Time MBA Program, the Assistant Dean is responsible for The Paul Merage School of Business Full-Time MBA MD/MBA, JD/MBA, Masters of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) and Masters of Science in BioTech Management (MSBTM) Programs. Responsibilities include formulation and implementation of the program's recruiting strategy on an international, national and local scale to recruit a diverse and highly qualified graduate student applicant pool consistent with the School's admission goals and objectives. A second broad area of responsibility includes working with the Associate Dean and faculty to deliver and manage an outstanding and stimulating curricular and co-curricular program experience.

 

Additional responsibilities include: leadership in the development and execution of the marketing plan which supports the recruiting strategy; coordination of the admissions process, including collaboration with the Executive Director of Career Services to identify the most viable candidates; development of a program for student financial support as it relates to student recruitment; oversight over the program's delivery of student services to enhance the quality of student life; and overall budgetary responsibility for the Full Time MBA Program.

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Career Position.

Requires ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary; requires periodic

regional and national travel to admissions recruiting events.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY CENTERS
 
Student Recruitment:
In collaboration with the Associate Dean and the Executive Director of Career Services, annually develop and implement a strategic plan for student recruitment.  Develop annual enrollment goals and objectives to be achieved through innovative and persuasive recruitment marketing plans and techniques.  
In collaboration with our partnership schools, annually develop and implement a strategic plan for student recruitment for the joint MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM programs.  
Discuss and finalize the annual per program student recruitment plans with the Dean and Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance to ensure the annual joint program enrollment goals are in line with the Merage School strategic plan, optimal class size requirements and financial strategy.  
In coordination with admission's staff and marketing staff at PMSB, develop an annual marketing plan to implement the recruiting strategy.  Oversee efforts to research demographics, plan recruiting events, organize targeted mail campaigns, and schedule receptions.  Determine which MBA Forum visits should be made to increase PMSB visibility and improve student recruiting efforts.  
Responsible for expanding awareness of the Full-Time MBA, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM program to increase the size and quality of the applicant pool.
Develop yield management techniques to convert top quality candidates into enrolled students.  
Work with staff to implement recruitment plan and monitor regularly to ensure goals are being met.  Regularly discuss recruitment plan progress with Associate Dean and others as needed.  Make revisions to strategy as necessary.
Represent school at recruiting events as needed.  Serve as primary spokesperson for the Full-time MBA,MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM Programs.    
Coordinate recruitment plan with Financial Aid.  Utilize Financial Aid at attract top students and discuss proposed packages with Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance to ensure Financial Aid is tied to recruitment plan and budgeted allocation.
Assist the school in the development of a plan to involve PMSB Graduate Alumni in the prospective student recruitment process.  Coordinate Alumni information sessions for graduating MBAs.  Develop a system for Alumni student referrals for the program.
Enlist Dean and faculty support in the recruiting effort when appropriate.
 
Administration:
Oversee program management from orientation through graduation for the Full-Time MBA Program, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM Programs.
Ensure that admissions and program activities are implemented in accordance with University, Federal, and all applicable regulatory policies and procedures.
Manage the staff and operations of the office.  Recruit, screen, hire, train, schedule and assign work; assess performance and provide feedback.  Set goals and objectives for assigned program measures and measure performance against objectives.  Prepare required staff evaluations.  Identify and recommend opportunities for staff training and professional growth.  
Administer the Full-Time MBA, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM Program budget.  In collaboration with the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, develop the annual budget for the program.   Review, analyze, and make decisions on budget requests, and develop sound fiscal practices, plans and strategies to deploy financial resources.
Attend national meetings such as AACSB and GMAC as appropriate.
Participate in committees at the department, school, college and university level, which deal with issues pertinent to PMSB graduate students and/or overall program administration.  
 
Financial Aid:
Responsible for providing strategic planning, management and oversight of the financial aid process for the Full-time MBA, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM program.    
Develop an enrollment management plan for fellowship distribution which corresponds to our overall student recruitment admission's plan.  
In addition to recruitment, work with the Director of Financial Aid to determine funds available for merit-based awards.  For stewardship purposes, ensure merit-based financial aid is awarded on a timely basis.  
Work with Director of Financial Aid to oversee stewardship responsibilities of all PMSB MBA-related external fellowship funds in conjunction with our recruitment plan.
 
Strategic Direction:  
As needed, work with the Associate Dean to develop and implement curricular and co-curricular proposals relative to the Full-Time MBA, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM Programs.
Provide overall strategic direction to the Full-Time MBA, MD/MBA, JD/MBA, MSEM and MSBTM Programs.  Communicate direction to staff and implement.  
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Associate Dean or Dean.  
 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
 
Represent PMSB to UCI campus units, the corporate community, alumni and to current and prospective MBA students.
Collaborate with Dean, Associate Dean, faculty, Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, Assistant Deans of PMSB's other MBA Programs, Marketing, Career Center, Corporate Relations, Development & Alumni Relations, Financial Aid, and other PMSB and UCI department heads to identify, develop and implement key initiatives and programs.
 

SCOPE OF OPERATIONS
 
Staffing:
Responsible for 2 direct reports, 6 total staff FTEs, as well as 3-7 Student Ambassadors and 2-4 work-study students.  
 
Budget:
Budget responsibilities include operating budget of > $980K, marketing budget > $135K, and fellowship funding of $2.1M.  Total financial responsibilities > $3.2M.
 
The Full-Time MBA Program is the flagship degree program for the school, on which reputation and most rankings for the school are based.  The quality of the student body and delivery of the program are critical to the success of PMSB.
 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
Required:
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic plans to continually improve programs.
 
Exceptional management skills to motivate, direct, and develop staff efforts.
 
Ability to develop and convey strategic vision and goals for Full-Time MBA program within the context of the academic direction of the Associate Dean and overall school mission established by the Dean and faculty.
 
Experience with resolving problems, handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy, and enforcing disciplinary actions when necessary.
 
High levels of interpersonal, organizational and social skills.
 
Thorough knowledge of MBA requirements.
 
Experience in graduate recruiting is preferred.
 
Knowledge of MBA Program Marketing and Advertising.

during recruitment.
 
Working knowledge of federal regulation and University policy related to student financial aid programs.
 
Working knowledge of enrollment management principles, financial aid awarding policies, and need analysis.

Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to make group presentations to convey information on a variety of topics.
 
Experience in analyzing written materials such as academic records and personal
essays to determine patterns, tendencies and relationships.

Ability to make independent decisions and take appropriate action. Must be able

BA/BS degree is required, and a graduate degree in business preferred.
