Position Summary: World Languages and Cultures in the School of Language, Culture, and Society invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions for the 2014-2015 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Director.

Instructors may be needed to teach one to four on-campus or Ecampus undergraduate courses in Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or Italian. Separate pools have been established for Spanish, French and German. Candidates interested in teaching those languages must apply separately to those instructor pool postings.

The primary mission of World Languages and Cultures is undergraduate education. The department offers BA and MAIS degrees, with majors and minors in Spanish, French and German, and minors in Japanese, Russian and Chinese. Courses are also offered in Arabic and Italian. The department has a graduate program leading to an MA in Contemporary Hispanic Studies.

The School of Language, Culture, and Society includes Anthropology; Ethnic Studies; World Languages and Cultures; and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. The School has a central focus on global justice with emphases in social and environment justice, food insecurity, and Latino/a studies.

Position Duties: 100% Instruction:

This position will administer and teach undergraduate courses in Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or Italian.

Instructors are responsible for holding regular office hours to assist students with coursework and answer questions regarding curriculum.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Master's in the language specific to the course being taught, teaching, or a related field.

Evidence of teaching at the college and/or university level.

Native or near-native proficiency in English and the foreign language being taught.

Availability on short notice.
