The University of Southern Indiana (USI) is a comprehensive public university, classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as an engaged university for both Curricular Engagement and Outreach and Partnerships. Founded in 1965, USI offers 70 undergraduate majors, 10 master's programs, and one doctoral program. USI is located in Evansville, Indiana and enrolls nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 91 Indiana counties, 39 states, and 67 nations. Additionally, more than 15,000 individuals are served annually in continuing education courses, noncredit workshops, conferences, and seminars. The well-maintained campus consists of 1,400 acres and state-of the arts facilities and is easily accessible to Indianapolis, IN, St. Louis, MO, Nashville, TN and Louisville, KY. The University is a competitive member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference with 15 varsity intercollegiate men's and women's sports. In 2010 and 2014, USI Men's Baseball team won the NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Position

The University of Southern Indiana seeks an entrepreneurial and strategic leader to guide the University’s planning process for enhanced recruitment and retention of students.  This newly created position will report to the President of the University and be a member of President’s Council. The Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM) provides strategic leadership and professional development for the offices of Admissions, Student Financial Assistance, Registrar, and University Division and will oversee departmental budgets and resource allocation for programs and services. The VPEM also will lead an Enrollment Management Council, which includes representatives of units across campus. Working with the senior leadership team, the VPEM is responsible for the institution’s strategic enrollment plan, making certain that appropriate assessment and analytics support the strategic goals of the University. The VPEM will lead cross-functional institutional initiatives, assuring implementation, monitoring progress, and facilitating change.


A master’s degree is required, doctorate preferred. At least ten years of experience in higher education demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility are also required. A strong understanding of current trends and best practices in enrollment and retention, superior quantitative research and analysis skills, and data-driven decision making is expected. The VPEM will have demonstrated ability to lead and operate multiple units and transform processes and operations. The successful VPEM will possess broad knowledge of financial aid strategies that optimize recruitment and yield and support the University’s goal of enhancing diversity as well as knowledge of strategic institutional branding and marketing. The VPEM must be an organized, creative, collaborative, engaged, and energetic hands-on leader. Evidence of the ability to collaborate with numerous internal and external partners will be expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong working knowledge of recruitment funnel development and management and targeted marketing are also expected.
