Campus Recreation Services (CSR) at Towson University is currently accepting applications to join our University for an Associate Director to serve as a member of the department’s senior leadership team working with the director and other associate director to establish strategic goals and objectives, implement strategies, oversee research and assessment initiatives, supervise staff, assist in the overall fiscal management of the department, and evaluate programs/services to meet the needs of the University community. Position provides leadership, professional development and supervision of team members in the areas of Competitive Sports (sports clubs and intramurals), Outdoor Recreation and Fitness, and is directly responsible for the administration of a departmental assessment plan related to departmental, divisional and university goals/objectives and learning outcomes.  Additionally, the incumbent will work collaboratively with other divisional and university partners regarding academic excellence and success, internship development and oversight, experimental learning opportunities, leadership development, diversity, community wellbeing, and legal/risk management procedures for all programs.

Campus Recreation at Towson University is a high energy, dynamic organization whose mission is to offer recreational opportunities promoting the development of student leaders and healthy lifestyles through physical activity and experiential education. The department is seeking a motivated professional interested in joining a growing team of equally dynamic and energetic staff members preparing for the design and construction of a 100,000 square foot expansion to the current recreational facilities of Burdick Hall set to open in the spring of 2017. The Associate Director – Programming & Assessment will serve as a member of the project planning committee responsible for assisting in all planning and design.

Responsibilities: Serve as a member of the department’s Senior Leadership Team; assist in developing programs, goal planning, and long and short term strategic planning; supervise, evaluate, and provide administrative directions/guidance to three professional staff members in the areas of Competitive Sports, Fitness and Outdoor Recreation; train, manage and evaluate direct reports on overall fiscal management of assigned programmatic budgets; directly responsible for developing, directing, implementing and interpreting departmental evaluations and assessments; work with all professional staff in their assessment efforts in each of their program/operational areas; ensure that departmental strategic plan initiatives parallel divisional goals and objectives related to institutional plans.; act as liaison to the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) supported National Research Institute for College Recreational Sports and Wellness, NASPA and Campus Labs.

Requirements: Master’s degree in physical education, recreation administration, sports management, student personnel, athletic administration, recreation, higher education or related field and five years of related experience is required. The selected candidate must have experience in performing and overseeing assessment practices; experience managing a recreational facility, preferably in a college sports facility; experience in program management of recreational activities such as competitive sports, fitness, instructional and/or outdoor recreation; fiscal/ budget management experience; and experience supervising staff. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Six or more years of professional administrative experience in the collegiate recreational sports profession with exposure to employee supervision, budget preparation and management, program development and administration, and equipment purchasing. Member of the Registry of Certified Recreational Sports Professionals desirable. CPR and First Aid Instructor Certified.
