GENERAL DUTIES

Supports a College or University unit by providing research and managing documents for legal matters of various kinds.

- Performs research and writing activities; prepare opinions, reports and drafts of research activities

- Develops and drafts legal documents, filings, charges, grievance and disciplinary decisions, and similar items

- Assists in preparing for litigation or hearings; compiles and analyzes legal data pertinent to cases; prepares summaries

- Researches, gathers, and compiles case data; studies provisions and nuances of contract, collective bargaining agreements, CUNY policies, and laws or regulations and fulfills requests for information

- Files and indexes case studies, actions, contracts, decisions, and other legal documents

- May perform paralegal duties in a specialized unit, such as labor relations, contracts, or student immigration support

- Performs related duties as assigned.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Compliance Programs & Legal Affairs (CPLA), the Legal Specialist will maintain, organize, and manage all case related materials.

He/she will liaise with technical personnel when more sophisticated searching and retrieval methodologies are required and coordinate preparation of exhibit tracking databases for case files. Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents. Organize and maintain exhibits and coordinate integration of exhibit index logs with case databases. Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully. Write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar; vary writing style to meet needs; and interprets written information. He/she will also be responsible for updating content on the CPLA website.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 4 years' experience in a major law firm performing all aspects of electronic document management. Familiarity with legal software systems such as eDiscovery, AbacusLaw, LexisNexis, Mercus Case, PCLaw, PerfectLaw or other similar programs.

Compensation for this position is commensurate with salary history, experience, and credentials.
