The University Counsel will be responsible for managing the university’s legal affairs, including advising on legal rights, obligations and related matters. The University Counsel will also provide legal advice and works collaboratively with the USG System Legal Office to manage matters in litigation. Requires a Juris Doctor from an A.B.A. accredited law school Requires at least ten (10) years of experience handling legal matters; must have at least four (4) years of experience advising higher education institutions. Requires membership in good standing with the Georgia State Bar Must have extensive knowledge of the legal and regulatory provisions that govern public higher education; must have current knowledge of statutes, regulations and case law applicable to state agencies; must have demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients; must have effective communication skills in both written and verbal presentations, including all aspects of legal writing technique and procedure.
