Position Summary: The Associate Vice Chancellor has day-to-day oversight responsibility for the University's Equal Opportunity and Compliance (EOC) Office, under the overall direction of the Vice Chancellor for Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement. This includes administration of and compliance with federal and state laws and University policies regarding equal opportunity, equal access, illegal harassment, and discrimination. As the University's Equal Opportunity Officer, the position serves as the coordinator of the University's Equal Employment Opportunity Plan and its execution. The position reviews, assesses, designs, and recommends implementation of policies, practices, and procedures in support of the University's equal access and non-discrimination and harassment policies, including its compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII, Title IX, and other non-discrimination/equal opportunity laws. The position serves as the University's 504 coordinator. The position is responsible for ensuring timely and effective investigation and adjudication of all complaints falling under the Office's jurisdiction and utilizing investigative outcomes to inform the University's ongoing efforts to maximize equal opportunity and access and to prevent illegal discrimination and harassment. The EOC Office provides services to students, staff, and faculty in the area of non-discrimination, equal opportunity, and disability accommodation and access. Education Requirements: An advanced degree is required. Degree(s) must be from an accredited University.
Qualification and Experience: 8 to 10 years or greater of leadership experience is required in managing equal opportunity (including Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action programs), equal access, and compliance programs and activities in a highly complex institutional setting similar in scope to UNC-Chapel Hill. Experience leading a team of professional staff and working collaboratively with a wide array of University employees. Demonstrated track record of planning, implementing, and promoting a comprehensive set of policies, practices, and programs related to Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action, ADEA, Section 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title VI and VII. In-depth understanding and execution-level knowledge of affirmative action, equal opportunity, compliance and anti-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Demonstrated superb judgment, analysis, and decision-making. Professional integrity and ethics; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; and commitment to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. The ability to take a stand on complex issues that impact the University's reputation and standing is critical. Prior experience in the higher education sector is strongly preferred.
