Oversee the management of the residence hall, and the development of programs, activities, and policies to improve the overall community within the area. Act as a judicial hearing officer in adjudicating policy violations. Supervise, develop, and evaluate a graduate assistant, resident assistants, academic mentors, desk receptionists, office Assistant and mail assistant. This is a 12 month live-in position with on-duty responsibilities in addition to weeknight and weekend commitment on a regular basis. The primary goal of this position is to establish a residential community that is conducive to the academic and non-academic development of students.  

1. Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate a staff of graduate assistant, resident assistants, academic mentors, desk receptionists, office Assistant and mail assistant
2. Coordinate a 24-hour security desk including the supervision, training, and evaluation of desk receptionists
3. Develop working relationships with the custodial and maintenance staff within the building
4. Supervise either a summer conference assistant staff, summer resident assistant staff, and co-supervise an ACUHO-I intern during the summer months (May-August)

1. Provide general management of a residence hall
2. Plan and coordinate personnel and other resources necessary for the opening and closing of the residence hall at the beginning and end of each semester, vacation period, and other breaks in the academic schedule
3. Oversee room assignments and room changes in coordination with other residence life professionals and manage the collection of Room Condition Reports, and Residence Hall Occupancy Agreements
4. Manage the distribution of room keys, key card access system, residence hall rules, mailbox guidelines, and other pertinent information
5. Conduct ongoing health and safety inspections of rooms with student staff
6. Assist in the preparation of various publications about residence life for students and staff
7. Maintain and update inventory of all residence life equipment and furnishings in the residence hall
8. Assist in the selection of professional and student staff; assist in training and evaluation of department personnel; make recommendations for appointments and other personnel actions
9. Coordinate maintenance/repair requests for the building/complex and oversee off campus vendors providing maintenance and/or other services to the building; report needed repairs to custodial/maintenance staff and assistant director, facilities management

10. Submit the following reports and information to the assistant dean of students and director/associate director of residence life: incident reports, residence hall activities and problems, system of governance, and student services
11. Coordinate assessment initiatives to determine student perceptions of residence life
12. Attend regular staff meetings with student life, dean of students, assistant dean of students, director of residence life and associate director of residence life, and department of residence life
13. Assist in making necessary physical and policy arrangements in emergency occupancy overflow situations
14. Assist by working at the office of residence life during peak periods
15. Advise individuals and groups of students on specific hall concerns
16. Support RHA/community council as a group by attending programs and events
17. Assist with supervision of living/learning communities' initiatives as assigned
18. Assist with room selection for returning students
19. Support and attend university events and programs
20. Serve on committees as assigned
21. Other duties as assigned by the director of residence life or designee


1. Implement a First Year Experience program within the building to meet the transitional needs of first year students. Assist in the on-going implementation and development of the FYE program
2. Oversee the development of a program vision, and the implementation of the program model within the hall
3. Coordinate the development of activities and programs within the hall, which support the four focal points of the department
4. Develop a living/learning environment based upon departmental initiatives and relevant theories.
5 .Coordinate assessment efforts to determine effectives of program components
6. Advise community council which includes the recruitment, training, and development of leaders within the hall. Support the activities of the Residence Hall Association, and work with community council leadership to meet the budgetary, attendance, and programmatic guidelines provided by RHA
7. Assist in long range planning and assessment of the programmatic and community aspects of the residence halls
8. Coordinate summer conference programs in the residence hall
9. Conduct necessary building meetings for students
10. Serve on committees as assigned by the president and other university officials
11. Encourage systems of student self-governance within the residence halls


1. Serve as primary judicial hearing officer for the complex, and adjudicate cases as assigned by the assistant dean of students
2. Preserve order within the hall by enforcing hall policies; coordinate with university police and other university offices as needed
3. Ensure compliance with university, local and state policies regarding alcohol and drugs


Other Duties:
1. Advise individual and groups of students on specific residence hall concerns
2. Evaluate crisis and emergency situations and alert Campus Police and other university offices
3. Serve "on-call" as scheduled and coordinate coverage during brief absences with other staff assistants
4. Counsel individual students regarding personal concerns and issues
5. Responsible for appropriate and efficient referrals and for the safety and welfare of students
6. Represent the department/university at professional meetings
7. Provide back-up support to other staff assistants in cases of illness, vacation, or emergency; provide and coordinate pre-arranged coverage for, by and with other residence life personnel
8. Make recommendations regarding residence facilities for handicapped students and ensures compliance of residence hall with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.9
9. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, cultural, disability and socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles
10. Serve as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate
11. Assist with departmental projects and initiatives as assigned by the associate director/director of residence life

Required Qualifications:

1. Academic credentials and/or experience suitable to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Baccalaureate degree required, master's Degree preferred, in student affairs or related field
2. One or more years of live-in experience as a professional staff member, with relevant student housing/residence life experience
3. Demonstrated abilty to be a team player and be willing to work with students, faculty and staff
4. Demonstrated ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
5. Demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and success in creating inclusive communities
6. Experience with and knowledge of student leadership and RHA organizations
7. Demonstrated abilty to solve problems and handle multiple tasks and priorities
8. Demonstrated planning, administrative, organizational, supervisory, and budget-management skills
9. Familiarity and/or experience with living/learning communities and faculty in residence programs
10. Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
