Position Information:
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Partnerships (AVC-TP) will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development and is responsible for technology commercialization, including licensing technology to existing companies, and helping faculty and student form new companies, establishing research and technology partnerships with large and small companies, corporate relations and corporate philanthropy.

AVC-TP supervises the Director of Technology Commercialization, Director of New Ventures, Director of Corporate Relations, and the Corporate Contracts unit. AVC-TP works closely with the RED Chief of Staff, RED Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, Director of Sponsored Program Administration, Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, and the UC Executive Director - Innovation Alliances and Services as well as UCR faculty and Deans.
Minimum Requirements:
Highly sophisticated skills in strategy development, business development, systems planning and change management.

Ability to accept new innovations and to understand high technologies and their real-world, commercial applications as evidenced by an advanced technical degree, successful research and development experience, and training in business administration and in intellectual property and contract laws. Legal language skill is important.

Negotiation skills and strategic thinking requisite for sustained, high-level interactions with government agencies, industry and other private sector sponsors.

Excellent leadership, management and communication skills.

Master's degree in a research or business discipline required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant cross-cultural work experience in both industry and academic environment especially relating to advanced technology development and licensing.

Expert skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques.

Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in related area encouraged.

Experience with technology tools for use in office and IP portfolio management.

At least five years of demonstrated experience in IP management and license and research contract negotiation at a senior level.

At least three years of management experience over a unit with broad responsibilities for IP licensing, research agreements, industry collaborations, industry affiliate programs, material transfer agreements, and IP negotiation support in federal, state, foundation, and other nonprofit awards.

At least three years of demonstrated experience with industry research collaborations, licensing discoveries and intellectual property, and managing technology transfer.
