Position Summary: OSU Extended Campus is seeking a Print/Interactive Design Manager. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Print/Interactive Design Manager is a professional faculty member in Oregon State University's Division of Outreach and Engagement and reports to the Director of Marketing and Enrollment Services within OSU Extended Campus.
OSU Extended Campus is a fast-growing, entrepreneurial organization with a commitment to providing access to Oregon State University's programs of excellence. Extended Campus administers Ecampus (OSU degrees online), Summer Session, and Open Oregon State (online educational resources).
The Print/Interactive Design Manager oversees the design and visual identity of all Extended Campus marketing and communication materials. This position develops, designs, and updates Extended Campus' visual identity in both print and web-based material. The Print/Interactive Design Manager is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing policies and procedures related to Extended Campus' visual identity.
Position Duties: 40% - Print Design/Production and Visual Identity Management:
Develops visual content, including print ads, brochures, fliers, posters and other recruitment materials that promote individual degrees, programs or courses offered by Ecampus and Summer Session. Builds single and multipage layouts in Adobe InDesign, creates graphics and manipulates photos using Adobe Photoshop and produces vector art using Adobe Illustrator.
Collaboratively leads the Marketing and Enrollment Services unit's decisions regarding Extended Campus' visual identity. Researches design approaches and determines what visual identity will be most effective for OSU Extended Campus' diverse target audiences. Develops and manages policies and procedures in relation to Extended Campus' visual identity. Ensures compliance with University graphic identity. Maintains and improves accessibility of visual and interactive content.
Works directly with outside contacts and internal project teams to provide design project plans, mock-ups, proofs and concepts, process feedback, provide context and consult on design solutions.
35% - Multimedia/Interactive Design for the Web:
Designs and develops motion graphics and static designs for the Web, including banner ads and custom landing page features for mobile, tablet and social media websites and applications. Develops animation and motion graphics for videos and other media. Directs and produces interactive media projects.
Leads production of design projects including templates, themes, interfaces, motion graphics, video projects and elements as well as video content. Creates interactive digital graphics and illustrations using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, etc.). Co-manages libraries of digital assets. Works with international and external vendors and developers to provide source files that can be delivered as finished media in broadcast and on the Web.
15% - Strategic Planning and Leadership:
Provides expertise and understanding of strategic design to engage in long-term strategic planning with a team of other faculty within Marketing and Enrollment Services. Works with Marketing and Enrollment Services and Extended Campus to plan and develop specific projects and broad marketing strategies that meet the educational mission of OSU Extended Campus and the university.
Acts as a point person for OSU Extended Campus' branding and visual identity. Teaches Extended Campus colleagues how to effectively utilize graphic approaches.
Shares knowledge from research and creative work with colleagues in Marketing and Enrollment Services and Outreach and Engagement about digital and marketing trends.
10% - Professional Development and Service:
Provides leadership and service through membership and participation in professional organizations. Researches and remains on the leading edge of design, design leadership, and marketing trends in higher education. Participates in professional development opportunities, e.g., conferences, workshops, webinars, to improve leadership and creative skills in design and remain current in the changing technological environment.
Attends meetings representing Marketing and Enrollment Services and OSU Extended Campus. Works on local, regional or national committees or projects of benefit to the university, professional organizations, and the public.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in graphic, web design, or related field or significant demonstrated multimedia design experience.
Excellent visual design skills.
Significant print design and multimedia/web design experience.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software titles (including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
Experience working successfully on collaborative teams.
Evidence of strong leadership skills.
Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Experience with developing and implementing strategic design plans for a unit or organization.
Experience with motion design and developing motion graphics.
Experience and understanding of marketing in higher education, specifically in relation to online learning.
Evidence of commitment to professional development.
