Job Description Summary
The Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising Youth Safety and Leadership Camp Program participants. The Counselors will supervise a small group of boys and/or girls during a weeklong overnight camping experience. Boys and girls sessions will be held on alternate weeks. Male counselors will supervise boys and female counselors will supervise girls respectively.
Prior to Camp:
•Provide information to those inquiring of summer camp information and activities
•Complete an inventory of all camping supplies and materials
•Prepare all forms and other paperwork and materials needed for parents/guardians, campers and staff.
•Ensure that campers are supervised at all times, and maintain a safe and enjoyable camp environment
•Act as a leader for all campers, providing them with instructions for daily activities
•Keep track of supplies for camp and convey any camp needs to the Sr. Camp Counselors
•Perform head-counts of participants throughout the day
•Ensure participants are safe (properly hydrated, playing areas are free of hazards, etc.)
•Follow all protocol found in the camp standard operating procedure
•Interact with parents/guardians during drop-off and pick-up times
•Assign duties for daily set-up and clean-up of the camp area
•Responsible for all activity supplies throughout the campus as well as off site, including but not limited to, transporting and set-up/break-down of supplies
•Assist with the coordination and leading the camp schedule and activities for the camp participants.
•Assume responsibility of the safety of all campers.
•Assist with the execution of all camp activities and promote camper participation in all activities.
•Follow and communicate camp objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines.
•Work with the camp directors and other camp staff to resolve difficulties with activities, programs, facilities and campers.
•Coordinate and handle arrangements for field trips, swimming, and other daily activities.
•Attend scheduled meetings and trainings.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING
•High School Diploma or GED and at least 30 college semester/45 college quarter hours or Associate's Degree
•One-year previous experience in planning and supervising recreational and/or educational activities for children ages 6-12 in a school, camp, or recreational setting, or any combination of education and experiences which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
•At least 18 years of age
•Valid Ohio State Driver's License
•Valid First Aid and CPR Certifications, or ability to obtain before the program begins.

•Prior camp counselor experience
•Prior supervisory experience
The camp session will take place between Monday, July 14, 2014 and Friday, August 8, 2014. During this time, the camp session will consist of:
- Orientation and training (2 weeks beginning Monday, July 14, 2014)
- OVERNIGHT camp sessions (2 weeks beginning Sunday, July 27, 2014)
- Camp wrap-up and administration (1 week beginning Monday, August 11, 2014)
*Hours and shifts will be determined by the Camp Administrator.
Target Hiring Rate/Salary
Camp session is a total of five (5) weeks. All counselors must:
-Attend mandatory two (2) week training prior to camp beginning on Monday, July 14, 2014.
-Participate in actual OVERNIGHT camp beginning Sunday, July 27, 2014 and ending on Friday, August 8, 2014.
-Be available one (1) week beginning Monday, August 11, 2014 for camp wrap-up and administration
