Research Foundation Support Position

Required Qualifications: Technical knowledge as evidenced by course work in chemistry and biochemistry. Incumbents will need brief period of orientation or on-the-job training to learn the rudiments of the job. Experience in a biology/chemistry laboratory and previous experience with microscopy. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office. Excellent communication skills, including both speaking and writing. Ability to follow specific instructions meticulously.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate or BS degree with a concentration in Chemistry, Biochemistry. One year experience in biology/chemistry laboratory. Molecular cloning experience. Classroom or lab experience in a S. cerevisiae and or C. albicans lab. Database creation and management experience. Proficiency with standard yeast molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, preparation of reagents/buffers. Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, SDS-PAGE and Western blot.

Brief Description of Duties: The Research Laboratory Worker position in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology will learn and assist the Principal Investigator with research experiments using yeast (cerevisiae and or C. albicans). The selected candidate will:

  • Assist PI with the management of the laboratory including ordering and maintaining supplies, lab stocks; learn and follow all safety procedures.
  • Assist PI with projects in the laboratory that include standard molecular or genetic techniques, use of microscopy; maintaining strain collection.
  • Assist PI with preparation of data for reporting experimental results in scientific publications.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly lab meetings; review research data.

Special Notes: This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
