FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Biological Sciences Department at New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is composed of a diverse group of faculty members with an impressive combination of backgrounds and specialties. In order to support its baccalaureate program in Biomedical Informatics, the department seeks candidates for tenure track Biological Sciences openings in the following specific fields:  Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biomedical Informatics. The position requires a commitment to teaching, scholarly research resulting in publications and presentations, sustained service to the department and college, and academic advisement. Courses to be taught will depend on faculty specialty and may include introductory biology as well as advanced courses in computational biology and bioinformatics such as computational genomics and molecular modeling. Research work with undergraduates is strongly encouraged.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline and expertise in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biomedical Informatics. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Teaching experience is highly desirable, preferably with multicultural students in an urban environment. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in curriculum development and use of innovative instructional methods as well as significant grant writing experience. Current research in the fields identified is required. Candidates should have good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
