Description

Implements daily program activities. Assist in providing for the care, education, and safety of children enrolled in the child care program.  Able to appropriately lift a child weighing up to 40 pounds.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
  1. Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities according to NAEYC guidelines, DOE licensing standards, and center policy.
    1. Participates in planning meeting with co-teachers.
    2. Collects needed materials and supplies in advance.
    3. Evaluates activities based on the needs of the children.
    4. Contributes to the preparation of the classroom newsletter.
    5. Assists in maintaining records and submitting reports.
    6. Assist with the planning and preparation of materials.
  2. Maintains a clean, safe, orderly classroom environment which contributes to the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children (Per NAEYC, DOE, OSHA, Risk Management, and Center policies).
    1. Monitors classroom and playground for cleanliness and safety.
    2. Cleans classroom according to established policies.
    3. Complies with center cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
    4. Limits excessive clutter in the classroom.
    5. Limits time out of the classroom and off of the playground when supervising children.
    6. Arrives punctually for work in order to maintain appropriate adult-child ratios.
    7. Facilitates discussions with children throughout the day in order to enhance language development.
    8. Monitors tone and volume of own voice to ensure respectful interactions with children, parents, and coworkers.
    9. Assures that children are supervised at all times. Monitors clean-up and transitions in order to assure the safety and security of all children.
    10. Positions self in classroom and on playground in order to interact with and guide children.
  3. Assist with orientation and supervision of practicum students and volunteers.
    1. Discusses weekly and daily plans with co-workers.
    2. Communicates necessary information concerning schedules and activities.
    3. Offers clear directions to students, observers, and volunteers.
  4. Assist with maintaining children's records, such as daily report forms, and developmental profiles.
    1. Monitors children's behavior and development.
    2. Reports concerns or unusual behaviors to lead teacher and supervisor.
  5. Works with supervisors to maintain inventory or supplies and materials; reports needed repairs immediately.
    1. Removes broken toys and materials.
    2. Monitors classroom inventory of supplies and materials.
    3. Conducts necessary repairs when possible.
  6. Participates in staff meetings, parent meetings/conferences, and opportunities for professional development.
    1. Reports issues, concerns, or topics that need to be included in staff meetings.
    2. Attend workshops and conferences as directed by supervisor.
    3. Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Department of Human Services Licensing Standards, Parent Handbook, and Staff Handbook.
  7. Promotes and maintains confidentiality with respect to information related to children, parents, and co-workers.
    1. Avoids conversations with parents concerning children (other than their own), parents, and co-workers.
    2. Limits conversations with others when supervising and interacting with children.
    3. Answers parental questions appropriately and professionally.
    4. Models appropriate interactions and behaviors for children.

 
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience working in a childcare setting or an Early Childhood Education program

Basic Qualifications


Job requires High school graduate or GED and 1 year of experience or the equivalent.
