GENERAL DUTIES

As a member of the executive team, reporting to senior executive management, the Administrator oversees one or more College administrative functions to meet strategic goals and provide responsive, cost-effective, and high-quality services and programs.  He/she plans, implements, and manages key programs with responsibility for budget, personnel, and daily operations and coordinates and participates in key College- and University-wide committees and advisory groups.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the President and working closely with the executive team of Medgar Evers College, the Chief of Staff provides senior level support and manages highly visible, complex projects and activities on behalf of the President. The Chief of Staff also provides the leadership to advance the EEO/AA/diversity goals of The City University of New York and Medgar Evers College, and is a member of the President's Cabinet.

The major tasks of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with senior staff on institutional planning and other issues that impact on the college and, in consultation with the President, prepare and/or contribute to the development of reports, briefings, presentations and responses on institutional planning and strategic issues.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Office of the President including staff supervision, development, and administration of office budgets, and establishment of systems to enhance the operational performance of the office.
- Liaison to the CUNY Central Administration and chief advisor to College personnel regarding the development of the annual College performance goals and targets, the College's Year-End Report, the ECP performance management process, and other University/College programs and initiatives.
- Research issues and draft briefing materials, memos, letters, and other documents for matters which require the President's attention.
- Represent the President as appropriate to constituent groups and on college committees and task forces.
- Plan and coordinate special events.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned by the President.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Master's preferred and eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in the major assignment areas preferably in higher education administration.

The ability to lead and manage complex projects and initiatives, strategic planning and organizational development experience with strong report writing, problem-solving, research, and planning skills also required as is demonstrated experience training, coaching, counseling, and developing staff. Must be able to work effectively as a member of the senior staff as well as independently and proactively. A high level of diplomacy and confidentiality required along with the sound judgment, initiative, and ability to effectively represent the Office of the President to internal and external constituencies.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
