Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Chief Ambulatory Officer/Executive Director, University Physicians and Surgeons (UPS) the UPS Revenue Cycle Manager will have primary responsibility of optimization of physician fee generation.


The incumbent will hold key responsibility and daily operational leadership for all professional fee revenue management, which includes the practice plan?s credentialing function, contract analysis and review, billing, collections, provider relations and accounts receivable management. The incumbent will lead the enterprise in the development of processes and systems that maximize effective collection of accounts receivable while remaining responsive to all state and federal billing agency regulations. The incumbent will develop processes and systems emphasizing innovation and automation across the revenue cycle.


Salary: Range $Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

The UPS Revenue Cycle Manager will have primary responsibility of optimization of physician fee generation.   Lead cross functional teams that impact the revenue cycle. Develop, plan, organize and implement current and future strategies of UPS in the areas of provider relations, credentialing, billing, collections and accounts receivable management.
Works in conjunction with Contracting Office to optimize professional fee contracts.
Develop strategic plans and programs for the Revenue Cycle unit and ensure that goals and objectives of the team are properly defined and clearly established.
Develops policies, guidelines, and implementing procedures and ensures consistent implementation across all functional areas.
Establish metrics and identify appropriate benchmarks for all components of the professional fee revenue cycle.   Recommend appropriate procedures for all activities related to the revenue cycle, and ensure account management practices are performed efficiently and effectively, including write-offs and/or other adjustments.
Monitor trends in work RVU production, charges, and collections by payor, including all governmental and other contracted payors.
Conduct and coordinate payor audits to identify payment variances for all payor contracts. Utilize MPV, FPSC, and other available tools to benchmark contract payor performance, and billing efficiency.
Identifies, develops and implements needed performance metrics and provides ongoing analysis and tracking to Medical Center and School of Medicine Executive Management. Makes recommendations for improved performance, identifies and evaluates opportunities for new revenue sources and/or reducing lost revenue through analysis of revenue cycle metrics.
Identifies strategic partnerships and/or business development opportunities to enhance affiliate revenue. Provides day-to-day and strategic revenue related oversight for long-term and short-term programs and projects in medical services, health information technology and changes related to health care reform.
Required: 9 to 10 years of relevant work experience with a BA/BS in related field; or 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience with a MA/MS; or Equivalent experience.
Experience in conducting long and short term financial planning and analysis in a complex funding environment.
Experience in establishing and maintaining complex financial control and reporting systems.
Experience in evaluating professional referral networks and professional fee contracts.
Experience in performing planning and analysis in diverse fields, including space, information systems, and organizational development policy, workflow systems while considering a wide variety of objective and subjective variables.
Demonstrated ability to manage an organization which includes the above fields.
Experience communicating complex material in written and oral formats.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and write comprehensive programmatic reports and studies.
Working knowledge and experience with computerized information systems and personnel computing applications. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems independently.
Working knowledge of UC staff personnel programs and policies.
Capable of sound, independent judgment and self-motivation.
Work is accurate, factually reliable, thorough and timely.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to communicate across the enterprise with physician/nursing
peers, health system leadership and third party resources.
Strong analytical skills and project management skills.
Strong leadership and teaming skills with an innovative approach and solution oriented work ethic.
Five or more years previous experience in a director level position with oversight of all facets of revenue cycle operations in a large multi-specialty group practice or hospital system.
Three or more years progressive management responsibility for GE/IDX Centricity and Epic Revenue Cycle practice management systems interfacing
with multiple clinical systems.
