Position Summary: Academic Specialist: Coordinator, Forest Carbon Certificate and Graduate Programs with the Department of Forestry at Michigan State University is seeking a full-time Academic Specialist to coordinate graduate programming in the Department, with a particular emphasis on managing and marketing an on-line graduate certificate program in Forest Carbon Science, Policy, and Management. The certificate program is designed to educate students for growing employment opportunities in managing forests / wood products for carbon storage, driven by emerging climate change mitigation programs (e.g., the United Nations' REDD+ and California's carbon cap and trade program). To our knowledge, this is the first program of its kind nationally. The Coordinator will provide support to Certificate Program faculty in developing and maintaining the on-line courses and learning environment. Additional duties include building collaborative relationships with US and foreign universities (especially in developing countries); marketing and outreach to professionals in forest and environment based government agencies, corporations, and non-government organizations; and marketing and outreach to recent baccalaureate degree holders in Forestry, natural resources, and environmental fields. The Coordinator will create and keep up to date the Forest Carbon Certificate recruiting materials (brochures, web presence, Facebook, social media, news releases), monitor academic progress of students in the program, provide assistance and guidance to enrolled students, coordinate the application process, communicate with potential students, assist students with job searches and placement, and serve as liaison between certificate students and faculty. The Coordinator also will market and recruit students for other on-line course offerings and will oversee the application process for the Department's MS and PhD programs. The person filling this position will work closely with the faculty Director of the Forest Carbon Certificate program.

A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field with some knowledge of Forestry, natural resources, or environmental fields. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Forestry or related environmental field with demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Some travel will be required.
