Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of four years of full time experience in fundraising and/or nonprofit management or related field such as sales/marketing, with a proven record of success in the solicitation, managing a donor/client portfolio, and working with volunteers. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree. More than four years of related experience, including experience in a Division I program, fundraising experience at an institution of higher learning, prior athletic marketing experience, experience implementing a priority points program, and an understanding of NCAA rules compliance.

Brief Description of Duties: The Director of the Stony Brook Athletic Fund will provide daily oversight to a comprehensive annual giving program for Athletics that will generate revenue through donor solicitations, stewardship and events. In addition, this position will oversee the plan development for donor acquisition, gift renewals and upgrading current donor levels. As a member of the University Advancement team, the Director will be responsible for attending key meetings and integrating University policies and guidelines into the Athletics annual plan. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics for External Services and/or the Vice President for University Advancement. The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Annual Giving: This area of responsibility will include the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual giving plan for the Stony Brook Athletic Fund that includes staff giving, individual sport team fundraising, alumni and friends support. Specific duties include strategic appeals to athletic department constituents with integration of the University tele-fund, overseeing gift processing, stewardship, working with University Advancement in management of the department donor database, and plan development for donor acquisition, gift renewals and upgrading current donor levels. Where appropriate, this position will meet with current and prospective donors to establish multi-year leadership and major gifts. This position will be responsible for meeting/exceeding annual revenue and donor goals as outlined by the department leadership. Specific initiatives include management of the overarching Stony Brook Athletic Fund, execution of priority point seating plan for Stony Brook Arena and LaValle Stadium, and stewardship plans for Athletic Department donors.
Events: This position provides leadership and oversight for the planning and management of special events (as part of the Stony Brook Athletic Fund), including but not limited to, golf outings, alumni receptions, “Friends” group activities, suite rentals and corporate/community events that are focused on increasing both donors and annual revenue.
Priority Points Program: Manage the Preferred Seating program that is part of the Stony Brook Athletics Fund, including the oversight of the Seawolves Points Program for season ticket holders. Responsible for ensuring accurate point totals based off annual giving and other criteria of the Seawolves Points Program.
Staff Supervision: Responsible for managing and supervising the performance of two full-time professional staff members, including the Coordinator of Annual Giving and Branding and the Coordinator of Athletic Events. This includes developing annual donor/revenue goals and providing daily leadership for each position.

Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics and/or the Vice President for University Advancement.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Travel to development events, intercollegiate contests and professional development (locally and out-of-state) will be required for this position. Night and weekend work is required.
