The Academic Advisor for the University Advising Center will advise students on a wide range of academic issues, including degree requirements and the general education curriculum of the university. S/he will also: explain and interpret university policies and procedures; serve as an advocate for students when appropriate; act as liaison to specified colleges/departments; partner with faculty and staff to support advising in specific college majors; plan, implement, and evaluate special projects, programs and retention initiatives; provide individual (both walk-in and appointment basis) and group advising for students served by University Advising Center; participate in New Student Orientation program; explain and interpret transfer credit policies and evaluations; assist with the inter-college transfer process; use WISER and other technological tools to advise students; serve as designated academic advisor for sections of First Year Seminar and Critical Reading and Writing courses; and manage, develop, and assist with various programs related to Student Referral Program, Academic Probation Program, Orientation, Peer Advising, outreach to faculty, and other related programs and services. Requirements: Master's degree or equivalent experience required. At least two years of direct student service in higher education required. Proven ability to work with diverse populations required. Knowledge of current student development theory and research. Demonstrated organizational ability and attention to detail. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
