Assistant Director of Financial Aid
Founded in 1847, Midway College serves traditional undergraduate women in the Women’s College and both men and women in evening accelerated undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in the Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky amid rolling hills, horse farms, and the Bourbon Trail and is within driving distance of Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati. A successful candidate will work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of constituents while possessing independent decision making abilities. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills are a must, as well as the ability to complete tasks requiring significant attention to detail in a fast-paced office with frequent interruptions. The ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines is critical. Candidate must have impeccable written and oral communication skills and possess a high degree of tact and discretion due to the confidential and sensitive nature of financial aid data. This position reports to the Director of Student Financial Planning and is a regular, full time position with normal hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion. Applications will be reviewed until position is filled. Qualifications: Bachelor degree required, Master’s degree ideal. Three (3) years of financial aid experience; management experience preferred. Thorough and current working knowledge of federal and state (Kentucky) financial aid programs and related regulations. Knowledge of COD, NSLDS, MyKHEAA and other aid administration systems. Experience with Ellucian/Colleague preferred. The assistant director will: Serve as primary administrator of federal and state aid programs in accordance with regulations and under direction of the director Work with director to maintain policy and procedures, monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations Monitor student withdrawal and enrollment changes; process financial aid adjustments and refunds (including R2T4) Review SAP appeals and professional judgment requests with oversight of director Serve on the Retention Committee and SAP committee Supervise work-study positions in financial aid office Counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid application processes, aid programs, eligibility, procedures, costs, indebtedness and financial planning Create aid packages for new and returning students Conduct financial aid sessions for preview days and recruiting events Coordinate and develop student outreach initiatives, such as default prevention and financial literacy Act as liaison with other offices and constituents on and off campus on enrollment, account, academic or external funding issues that may impact financial aid eligibility Coordinate awarding of external funds, such as private loans, outside scholarships, employer reimbursements, vocational rehabilitation, military education benefits Reconcile federal and state aid programs Create and interpret reports Troubleshoot technical issues Participate in ongoing training (webinars, conferences, etc.) to remain current on federal and state aid program compliance issues and software/system changes Assist director with identifying department needs, developing office systems, strategic planning and goal setting for department, prioritizing day-to-day operations for financial aid staff, training staff, and providing guidance to support staff Serve as primary backup for director and provide leadership in absence of director To apply, send a letter of interest and resume with names, phone numbers, and addresses of three (3) professional references to email@example.com or to Human Resource Department, Midway College, 512 East Stephens Street, Midway, KY 40347.
