Prescott College seeks a president, to be appointed in October 2014 and to begin his or her leadership no later than January 2015. The president is the chief executive officer of the College and reports to the Board of Trustees. The president provides executive oversight and leadership of the activities of the College within the scope of the policies established by the Board of Trustees. Prescott College is a mission-driven, private, liberal arts college in Prescott, Arizona. The College was founded in 1966 with the motto: For the Liberal Arts, the Environment, and Social Justice. Today, it remains a premier example of education which combines a liberal arts program heavily focused on the environment and social justice with extensive field and community “mentor-based” experiential education. It is a member of the Consortium for Innovative Environments in Learning ( and Ecoleague ( The college has a student body (resident and limited-residency) of roughly 1200, and an average student to faculty ratio of 7:1 in the on-campus classrooms. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. There are four general degree/delivery model programs at Prescott College: the Resident Undergraduate Program, Limited-Residency Undergraduate Program, the Resident Master’s and Limited-Residency Master’s Program, and a Limited-Residency Ph.D. program in Sustainability Education. Within the resident undergraduate program, students can earn a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in a number of courses. For more information, please go to Desired Characteristics of the Next President The president should be an innovative and collaborative leader with the ability to maintain the integrity of experiential education within a financially viable delivery system. He or she will lead with a clear vision for Prescott College, with the skills and energy for implementation of this vision while respecting the history, tradition and stakeholders of Prescott College. The president must have a clear understanding of the Prescott College mission and experiential learning and embrace these commitments to academic principles while at the same time establishing cooperative relationships with institutions impacting the College. In collaboration with administrators, faculty and the Board, the president will increase the Prescott College market presence, embrace the role as the College’s chief ambassador and excel in representing the College. The president is responsible for oversight of strong curriculum offerings that promote academic excellence and prepare students to meet the needs of a more just and sustainable world. The president is responsible for successful fundraising and financial viability, and should engage alumni and foster and grow relationships with external constituents. As an internal leader, the president will inspire trust and confidence within campus constituents and balance and effectively negotiate priorities. The president will direct financial resources to meet organizational strategic objectives and use strategic financial planning to build capacity for growth. QUALIFICATIONS The next president will hold a graduate degree and have a minimum of five years of executive management experience with personnel, budget and programs, as well as experience with fundraising. The next president will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate the vision of Prescott College to a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate should have demonstrated effective leadership experience, including motivating and inspiring others, as well as a clear understanding of and commitment to the mission of Prescott College.
