The department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking a chairperson to administer and guide the department. The candidate should be capable of leading faculty to encourage and continue a tradition of high quality research, teaching, and extramural funding. The chair's duties include managing and/or supervising the majority of administrative tasks in the department. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate fully in the life of the Department, College, and University including teaching, committee work, obtaining grants, publishing in refereed professional journals, and mentoring junior faculty. The department offers B.A., B.S, M.A., and M.S. degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science. Faculty in the department may teach at the Ph.D. program of the Graduate Center of CUNY. The successful candidate may be assisted by a deputy chair to help deal with issues arising in both Mathematics and Computer Science. The successful candidate should be able to interact effectively with students, faculty, and administrators.


Earned Ph.D. degree in mathematics or computer science. The candidate must have excellent academic and professional references, considerable supervisory and administrative experience, a record of considerable external research funding, evidence of excellence in teaching, effective oral and written communicative skills, and a record of proven academic leadership skills. The successful candidate will have an established record of nationally and internationally recognized scholarship and will have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching that merits appointment as Professor.
