Associate Editor/Editor, Education Advisory Board Daily Briefing: Entrepreneurial journalists: Wanted. We're spinning off our popular Daily Briefing newsletter to serve our higher education members, and we’re looking for an editor who's ready to run it. If you can cleverly write and edit copy for the Web, we want to hear from you. If you're a deadline-driven content manager, drop us a line. The Role in Brief The Education Advisory Board's Daily Briefing's small but dynamic team will work a 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. shift, although there is flexibility. Until noon, staff members are on a very tight deadline while composing the day’s issue; afternoons are less intense. The editor will be an intellectual and operational leader, playing a key role in launching the publication and turning it into a must- read for our member provosts and professors. Initial responsibilities will include: • Understanding the needs of our higher education members and the role that our newsletter will play by analyzing the current news landscape; interviewing EAB executives, researchers, commercial leaders, and other team members; interviewing members and other outside experts; and conducting tests and analyzing the resulting data. • Charting a plan for the publication's daily operations After launch, the associate editor/editor will: • Track the day's leading higher education stories and figure out the news that matters most to members • Manage and coach a team of staff writers • Edit short news blurbs that will be featured on eab.com while identifying opportunities for longer features • Build collaborative relationships with higher education researchers and colleagues in the Advisory Board's news division • Think creatively about content and generate new ideas • Compile and analyze data on the publication's success and devise improvement strategies based on analysis Basic Qualifications: • Minimum 3 years of work experience • Demonstrated writing and editing experience in a professional environment • Demonstrated ability to create, adapt, and unify content specifically for the Web • Proven to be organized, task-oriented, proactive, and deadline-driven Ideal Qualifications: • Background in both journalism/online media and higher education research/reporting • Proven to be organized, task-oriented, proactive, and deadline-driven • Proven ability to work collaboratively with peers, senior leaders, cross-functional teams Benefits: Consistent with our belief that our employees are our most valuable resource, The Advisory Board Company offers a competitive benefits package, including a comprehensive health plan, a 401(k) plan, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, a daytime leave policy for community service, a medical flexible spending account, and additional attractive benefits.
