Instructional Safety Officer PART-TIME, College of Engineering (Job 1011458)
Position Description The Instructional Safety Officer provides oversight of all College of Engineering instructional and research laboratories to ensure compliance with federal and state occupational safety and environmental regulations. Works in collaboration with the College Facilities Coordinator, Department Technicians, and the office of Environmental Health and Safety. Educates students, staff,and faculty of safety requirement standards. Coordinates safety training, specialized training, and facility repair. Maintains records and prepares reports. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of the safe use of gases, high power electrical sources, chemicals, hazardous waste, as well as spill prevention and mitigation. Working knowledge of the safe use of laser facilities. Ability to provide training to students, staff, and faculty. Ability to supervise diverse communities of students. Ability to successfully coordinate and perform multiple complicated tasks under stressful situations. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence." Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Safety, or a related field and three years of related experience required. Master's degree strongly preferred. Application Deadline June 25, 2014 Time Base/Hours/Units per Week Half-time/20 hours per week. An additional part-time temporary lecturer position may be available. Salary The salary range for this classification is $1,949 to $2,923 per month.
