Presidents & Chancellors

The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System invites applications and nominations for the position of President of Northwestern State University. The individual selected as President will assume the position during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Founded in 1884, Northwestern is categorized as an SREB Four-Year 4 institution, as a Carnegie Master’s College and University (larger programs), and as a COC/SACS Level V institution. Northwestern State University, located in rural Louisiana between the population centers of Alexandria and Shreveport, serves a wide geographic area between the borders of Texas and Mississippi. The University enrolls approximately 9,000 students in 58 degree programs. It serves the educational and cultural needs of the region through traditional and electronic delivery of courses. Distance education continues to be an integral part of Northwestern’s degree program delivery, providing flexibility for serving the educational needs and demands of students, state government, and private enterprise.

The Board and University are seeking a president who will be a visionary, entrepreneurial leader who has exhibited both academic and senior administrative success; is committed to fundraising, economic development, and community relations; and is student-centered. Further, the President should empower others through transparent communication, collaborative management, and shared governance.

Candidates will be expected to have high-level executive experience with demonstrated performance of exceptional quality. Those holding an earned doctorate and having a background in higher education administration are preferred. Management experience in other fields will also be considered.

R. H. Perry & Associates, an executive search firm, is supporting this search, and applications and nominations will be accepted until the position is filled. Screening of candidates will begin immediately and, for full consideration, application materials should be provided by August 1, 2014. An application should include a letter describing relevant experiences and interest in the position; a résumé; and the names of five references, including titles, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
