Public Relations Writer

Alfred State seeks an adept Public Relations Writer, one who can develop content (long-form and abbreviated) for an array of constituency groups (faculty, staff, current/potential students, alumni, donors, key administrators), for a variety of mediums. You will support all brand communications, from blog posts to press releases, so you should have out-of-this-world writing skills.
We’re looking for a master multi-tasker with major hustle and a passion for storytelling. You devour news and are always looking for new opportunities, reporters and media outlets to tell the Alfred State story. You will report the Sr. Director of Communications.
The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and communicator experience dealing with a variety of people (ages, backgrounds, business responsibilities/titles, etc.) and needs. The candidate must be able to function in a fast-paced work environment as a team member as well as individually, follow departmental review and approval processes, meet deadlines and provide quality customer service for every project or initiative.
As the Public Relations Writer, you will have the ability to develop and edit content for a host of initiatives; serve as an editor and lead writer for the alumni relations magazine, for the college's marketing materials, the institutions internal electronic newsletter, Connections, and web features showcased on the main website (www.alfredstate.edu); research for the purpose of effective communication; secure and conduct interviews with a variety of constituency groups (faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, administration); develop copy to meet the needs of the piece; fact check, proof and edit copy; follow content review/approval process; attend college events to report the happenings on campus; and develop copy that adheres to the college style guidelines.
Research and create media lists, identifying local influencer's and bloggers
Support public relations outreach and respond to inbound press inquiries
Draft, edit and approve internal and external brand messaging including blog posts, community emails, web copy, pitches and other communications
Contribute to projects and creative assets for videos, promotions, mailings and special events
Track press coverage. and maintain press page on college website
Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field.
Possesses outstanding interpersonal, communications (both written and verbal), and human relations skills.
Possesses excellent writing, editing and proofing skills
Demonstrated ability to develop strategic messaging in a compelling and newsworthy fashion
Demonstrated ability to develop attention grabbing content including titles, headlines and quotes
Expert multi-tasker with ability to deliver under tight deadlines
1-2 years of relevant Marketing or PR/Communications experience.
Knowledge of AP stylebook guidelines, and ability to adapt to new styles; ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment; ability to work with a variety of people, while providing excellent client service; ability to follow current processes and procedures outlined by the Communications department; ability to meet deadlines; ability to work as a team member and independently; ability to work in a self-directed manner, while still keeping colleagues informed of progress.
