Job Description Summary/Essential Duties:

Performs administrative and supervisory work in planning, coordinating and directing the functions of departments related to selected student support services. Specific assignments vary to meet location needs, but may include such departments as: Rising Star Program and other retention-centered cohort based programs, Academic Advising including advisement services for ESL/ESOL students, and distant learners, Texas Success Initiative, Disability Services, and other departments/programs that may be assigned. Work includes budget development and control; program development and evaluation; and interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures. Develops, implements, manages, and evaluates a large variety of diverse programs in support of student success and assigned retention programs of the college. Assumes overall responsibility for directing the activities of the personnel engaged in performing the functions of the assigned areas. Assesses needs; supervises and coordinates development, implementation and evaluation of programs and associated staff. Selects, trains and evaluates staff. Develops work schedules and assignments. Develops budgets; monitors and approves department expenditures. Assists with resource development related to the support of assigned programs and services. Prepares departmental objectives; evaluates the quality of services provided and determines ways to improve services and implements changes. Prepares reports, proposals and recommendations for overall programs; keeps detailed records of assigned activities. Develops and maintains a variety of community relation activities; serves as college liaison with various student/community outreach organizations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Master's degree in student personnel and guidance or related area plus four years of supervisory experience in student personnel, counseling, student success, career services, and/or judicial services, etc. Success in leading within an environment with a diverse student population. Success in working with traditionally under-represented students. Ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others. Oral and written communication skills to support a wide variety of interaction with varying levels of DCCCD staff, students, other educators/administrators and the general public from diverse backgrounds. The ability to provide quality customer service. Official transcripts will be required. *Will be subject to a criminal background check.*

Position Specific Qualifications:

Experience in management and supervisory work at community college level and with background experience working with low income first year experience students preferred. A knowledge of strategic enrollment planning with data support and communication to students about financial literacy planning also preferred.
