The Athletic Trainer will be responsible to provide preventative measures, acute care, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to intercollegiate athletes at UMass Boston. The incumbent will be responsible for selected coverage of athletic contests, practices, and Sports Medicine Area as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the standards for the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Duties include, but are not limited to: • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing supervision, direction, and education of student athletic trainers in clinical setting; • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in the application of principles, methods and procedures of evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, pre-conditioning and reconditioning of the athlete through the use of appropriate preventative and support devices, temporary splinting and bracing, physical modalities of heat, cold, massage, water, electric stimulation, sound, exercise and exercise equipment under the direction of a physician. This also includes counseling and instruction to coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel and communities in the area of care and prevention of athletic injuries; • Assist in coordinating and providing medical coverage for home and away contests as well as events as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer; • Assist Head Athletic Trainer in the daily sports medicine area activities; • Supervise and ensure the physical maintenance of the sports medicine area; • Provide and maintain a descriptive inventory of all sports medicine materials, equipment and supplies; • Assist in maintaining computerization of medical records, treatments, educational programs and supply inventory; • Assist in the development of in-service educational programs for student-athletic trainers, athletes, coaches and departmental staff; • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards for NATA approved internship or accredited undergraduate student athletic trainer program; • Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred, in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy or related fields, and one to three years’ experience as a certified athletic trainer is required. Possession of or eligible for the Massachusetts licensure as an Athletic Trainer through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professions required. National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) certification and maintenance of certification by NATA is required. Prior experience within a college or university setting is preferred. • Ability to communicate effectively; • Ability to execute a number of diverse projects simultaneously; • Ability to take initiative and make progress amidst competing priorities; • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; • Strong interpersonal skills; • Strong commitment to customer service.
