Position Summary: The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an open rank fixed term faculty member to serve as a policy analyst and programmer. This is a permanent 1.0 FTE non tenure track faculty appointment. The selected candidate will be involved in projects that assess the impact of social welfare policies at the state and local level. Responsibilities include: participation in the development, maintenance, and analysis of longitudinal databases that track the outcomes for children and families involved with the social welfare and other human service systems; and, the development and support of web sites that publish information about the welfare programs based upon the longitudinal files. As a fixed term member of the faculty, this individual may teach one or more classes in the school's MSW or Ph.D. programs. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
Education Requirements: Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Social Work, Public Policy, Political Science, or another social science discipline.
Qualification and Experience: The selected candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, the capacity to work with various different datasets from different systems to create longitudinal files, as well as the ability to teach courses in research methods and statistical analysis. Training and experience in administrative and/or operational data is highly desirable. The selected candidate should have substantial knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis; significant experience with SAS and Linus OS; and, demonstrated experience of extracting information from database table and building and maintaining longitudinal files.
