Assistant Director of Financial Aid

Job Description Summary:

Assist the Director of Financial Aid in administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid funds and services, and reconcile various aid programs. Determine student eligibility for various types of financial aid; awards and distributes funds that apply. Assist and provide direction for the operational functions of the department and manages staff as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum three (3) years experience in student financial aid.
Minimum three (3) years experience in Banner.
Minimum two (2) years of management experience.
Requires thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations governing various types of aid.
Proficient in various computer applications, such as Microsoft Office.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Possess basic mathematical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum five (5) years experience in Banner and Banner reporting.
Minimum four (4) years management experience.

Essential Duties Summary :

Assists Director in various areas of office management, including personnel and day to day office operations, training of staff, and staff supervision.
Manage, train, and audit all financial aid counselors.
Advise students, parents, and staff in regard to factors which may affect their eligibility for financial aid and the financial aid process.
Acts as liaison with other offices and constituents, both on and off campus, to help determine and resolve matters pertaining to students’ enrollment, accounts, and academic concerns which may affect eligibility for financial aid.
Maintain industry best practices by staying abreast of federal and state regulations. Monitor to ensure all university policies and procedures are in compliance, implement required changes, develop training materials, and provide training on regulations to the financial aid team. Communicate any changes that may impact other university departments and answer questions they may have about policy changes.
Serve as core member of the management team.
Provide leadership and assist director in identifying departmental needs and implementing policies and procedures to meet those needs, which includes developing office systems, procedures, strategic planning and goal setting for the department.
Serve as an active member of the SAP Committee, Institutional Effectiveness Committee, and FOA Strategic Planning Committee.
Reviews the satisfactory academic progress of students (SAP).
Work with Director of Financial Aid on Professional Judgment appeals and Appeals for Independent Student Status.
Administer the awarding of all institutional and external scholarships, grants and waivers.
Work with the Scholarship Coordinator to ensure over awards are avoided and awards are in compliance with applicable policy and regulations.
Post and reconcile all outside scholarships.
Reconcile and balance reports for various financial aid funds, including reporting to federal and state agencies.
Ensure aid is paid to student accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
Send invoices to third-party vendors on behalf of the students.
Responsible for Default Management planning and aftercare for students.
Coordinate audit activities and prepare documentation to meet institutional compliance standards.
Conduct annual review of private loan lender list and update as necessary.
Assist director with any additional duties as needed to ensure compliance.
