Job Description Summary:
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is necessary.

A minimum of one year of radio communication experience is necessary.

Sufficient oral and written communication skills to effectively speak with callers and prepare job-related documentation is necessary.

Successful completion of formal dispatcher training within 180 days of employment.

Successful completion of a drug screening, which has been approved by the University Police Department.

Must be available to work rotating shifts.


Desired Qualifications:

Documented work experience within a service-oriented organization.


Special Instructions to Applicants:

Job Duties
  • Notifies shift supervisor of tasks requiring his/her attention and of all emergency situations.

  • Evaluates the severity of transmissions and alarms and takes appropriate action in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

  • Performs other work-related duties as requested.

  • Answers all University Police Department telephone lines and directs calls to appropriate UPD personnel/Dispatches officers to incidents, alarms, requests for assistance, service, and to emergency situations on campus.

  • Notifies departments of safety/security hazards reported by police personnel.

  • Provides general campus information to the public.

  • Maintains and monitors communication with all University Police Officers via radio and telephone.

  • Completes blotter of campus events (i.e. transmissions received and alarm signals) by the end of the shift.

  • Monitors University emergency telephone lines and fir, intrusion and panic alarms throughout the campus.

  • Monitors video surveillance system.

  • Contacts District of Columbia Fire and Police Departments and coordinates forces in emergency situations at the main campus.
