Job Description Summary:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus three years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Possession of a District of Columbia Special Police Commission, or the ability to obtain a commission within 120 days of employment, is necessary.

Successful completion of a physical, drug screen and mental examination which has been approved by the University Police Department is required.

Must be U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age.

Valid Drivers License.

Job Duties
  • Analyzes, reviews and recommends the implementation of new and/or revised courses of instruction for the Consortium of Universities training programs.

    Serves as the administrative officer for the Consortium of Universities Public Safety Institute, as well as for training classes involving supervisory personnel and dispatch personnel.

    Responsible for developing the training schedule for various Consortium of Universities classes and for developing and/or maintaining official lesson plans for all courses administered for the Consortium of Universities.

    Serves as the primary instructor for various classes administered by the Consortium of Universities.

  • Enhances professional knowledge through the review of published literature and attendance at workshops/seminars.

    Maintains a good working relationship with external law enforcement officials and other agencies in order to obtain and exchange information.

    Attends external/internal training sessions and workshops to enhance training skills and knowledge.

  • Analyzes, reviews and recommends the implementation of new and/or revised policies and procedures related to the formal training of all University Police Officers.

    Develops lesson plans and curricula for classes he/she is responsible for teaching and works with other instructors to develop lesson plans for their classes. Responsible for maintaining official lesson plans for all UPD training courses.

    Serves as an instructor for various UPD classes.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

    Participates on University Committees as assigned by the Chief, University Police.
