Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), the largest of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities, invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Individuals with a strong academic, research, and/or administrative background for the position are desired. Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is one of twelve state-supported universities in Florida. The University is governed by a 13-member Board of Trustees which is governed by the Florida Board of Governors. FAMU is an 1890 land-grant Comprehensive/Doctoral University, which was established by the Legislature in 1887 in the capital city of Tallahassee. The University has a current enrollment of approximately 10,700 students and over 700 faculty members who provide instruction, research and service through 13 colleges and schools. The University has been an historic leader in recruiting National Achievement Scholars and has been number one in the production of African American baccalaureate graduates. In addition to 54 outstanding baccalaureate programs, FAMU offers 29 master’s level programs, three professional programs, including the JD in the College of Law, the Doctor of Public Health and 11 Ph.D. programs. This position is responsible to the University President for all matters pertaining to academic programs, activities and services in the seven colleges, seven schools and numerous institutes, as well as all academic support programs in the University. This includes, but is not limited to: the formulation, coordination and implementation of University policies relating to the delivery of effective teaching, research and service by the faculty; appreciation of and support for shared governance; supervision of administrative, budgetary and accountability functions; assurance of quality instruction and advisement to students at all levels. Experience working in a collective bargaining environment is preferred. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will foster a dynamic intellectually invigorating environment, build productive relationships with important constituencies in the region, increase funding through sponsored programs and development activities, and work productively with faculty, staff, students, alumni and citizens. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate or equivalent, a record meriting appointment as a full professor in an academic department, and at least seven years of progressive higher education experience including administrative experience in an academic setting. A commitment to and understanding of diverse student populations; demonstrated success in leading and mentoring professional staff and cross functional teams, fostering collegiality and effective collaboration; developing and executing strategic partnerships and planning efforts across the University while working with state and national stakeholders and constituencies to further the mission of the University.
