Job Description:

To provide mental health counseling and programming to students. This aides in retention efforts by providing support to students and helping them to find balance in their lives and manage their presenting problems, symptomology, and/or other mental health needs, so that they are able to be successful in their goal of achieving a degree at Alfred State.

Job Description

Assists in developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community, including the provision of individual and group therapy and counseling to students, assessment interviews, referrals and consultation with faculty and staff around issues related to the development and psychological needs of college students.
Provides individual and group counseling to students seeking assistance with personal concerns; performs crisis intervention and consults or refers to psychiatric and/or medical resources as needed.
Assists with specialized programs or particular student groups as identified by the Senior Director of Health and Wellness Services.
Consults with faculty and staff in their work with students and encourages their participation in providing students both individual and group assistance.
Develops workshops for the professional development of faculty and staff.
Participates in the initial and ongoing training of residence hall and other appropriate staff.
Provides Health & Wellness Programming relevant to campus issues such as alcohol and or other drug abuse, nutrition, stress reduction, effective time management skills, and etc.
Assists in processing student withdrawals, leaves of absence and re-admissions as directed.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications are as follows:

Masters degree in counseling, counseling/clinical psychology, or equivalent.  One to three years of related experience required.

Applicants who have a NYS Licensor will be given preference.

Special skills, Certifications, or Licensor Required:

Eligible for NYS Licensor within one year of hire date.
