1. JOB PURPOSE
A CU LEO I-Patrolman performs duties under general supervision to enforce State, County and Municipal Laws, Rules and Regulations for the protection and security of persons and/or property of Clemson University.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Patrols assigned areas to detect violations and enforce State, County and Municipal laws, rules and regulations for the protection and security of persons and/or property of Clemson University. E/30%
Investigates complaints, interviews victims, witnesses and participants; photographs and sketches crime scene(s), collects evidence and informs superiors as appropriate. E/25%
Performs duties associated with fire and crime prevention to include transporting sick/injured persons to/from infirmary and assisting disabled motorists. E/10%
Directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic installs and removes traffic control barricades, issues parking tickets and traffic summons as appropriate; participates in traffic safety programs. E/10%
Performs other related duties as required. E/5%
Prepares cases for court presentation. Presents cases in the Clemson University Municipal Court - forwards any and all necessary documents for Circuit Court cases to the Solicitor's Office and testifies in court when necessary. E/5%
Responds to disturbances, performs investigations, collects evidence and completes necessary reports. E/5%
Exercises arrest powers when appropriate: completes booking reports, fingerprints and photographs when necessary. E/5%
Reports safety hazards ,prepares police reports and other report(s) of activity as required. E/5%
A high school diploma or GED
A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Must possess or obtain Certification by the S.C. Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with State Law within a year of hire. Must be qualified for appointment as a State Constable in pursuant to SC Code Section 23-1-60.
PREFERRED ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
One (1) year previous experience in law enforcement or a related field.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 40; Band: 04 ($ 25,627.00 - $ 30,000)
Employee may be required to work in excess of forty (40) hours per week. Employee's work schedule is subject to change and may require work on weekends and/or holidays. Employee may be required to work on day, evening, night or a combination of shifts
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of the civil codes for the state of South Carolina and modern police methods and procedures. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Physical ability to perform assigned duties.
Guidelines: The employee performs daily assignments with the direction and supervision of his/her supervisor. Employee's independence with discretion depends upon assignments and may vary from liberal to limited. All duties are performed within the parameters of State Law and Department Policy.
