Job Description Summary/Essential Duties:
Provides leadership for overall management of the resources and activities required to produce the college newspaper and other student publications. Serves as advisor to newspaper staff including online newspaper and provides training on related equipment and software. Assembles and manages the college newspaper team (editors, writers, photographers, and production). Provides guidance to students and assists with editing, writing, and marketing. Establishes newspaper timelines and works with editor on storyboards and news assignments. Ensures publications are published in a timely manner. Provides technical knowledge and trains students on the various software programs required to produce student publications. Troubleshoots equipment and makes minor repairs. Serves as liaison with contracted printer to resolve any printing and production problems and/or related issues. Also serves as liaison with current and prospective advertisers. Responsible for managing, identifying, and purchasing equipment and software needs to produce student publications. Keeps current with changes of the industry. Responsible for managing the Journalism Workshop, which includes planning the event, recruiting attendance from area high schools, securing keynote speakers, corporate sponsors, contest setups, seminar leaders, and also develops the registration brochures. Coordinates all journalism and student newspaper trips to local and statewide competitions. Coordinates with department/location web master to post publications online. Monitors the department budget. Supervision: Responsible for the selection, training, coaching, evaluation and development of assigned staff. Performs related duties as assigned.
May occasionally be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism, English, or related field and two years of experience in journalism, publishing and/or printing business or Associate's degree in related field and four years of experience in journalism, publishing and/or printing business or high school graduate and six years in related field and four years of experience in journalism, publishing and/or printing business. Must have one (1) years of demonstrated supervisor experience of full-time staff. Demonstrated proficiency in use and understanding of Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft office products. Ability to deal with service vendors and advertisers. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to travel in and out of county and work extended hours including weekends and evenings. Proven knowledge and experience in providing effective customer service. Official transcripts will be required. *Will be subject to a criminal background check.*
